| Tien Bo apartment residents worried about living in landslide area |
At the end of October, after heavy rains caused by storm No. 11, new landslides continued to appear in the area around Tien Bo apartment building. Mud covered the first floor, many surrounding walls and foundations were cracked, and the land near the stream bank was deeply eroded, only a few meters from the foot of the building.
Tien Bo apartment complex currently has about 220-230 households. According to residents, over the past year, this area has been severely flooded and suffered serious landslides four times. Some households with the means have moved elsewhere or rented out their apartments. Although residents and investors have mobilized forces to temporarily reinforce with sandbags and bamboo poles many times, the effect is only temporary.
Not only in the apartment building, the landslide also occurred seriously in group 6, Quan Trieu ward. The residential road collapsed into the canal, people had to move back to their residential land.
Previously, Thai Nguyen Irrigation Exploitation One Member Co., Ltd. had temporarily built a short embankment of nearly 30m along the bend of the stream, but due to strong currents and large amounts of water, landslides continued to recur.
After receiving the feedback, the People's Committee of Phan Dinh Phung Ward organized a working group to conduct an on-site inspection. Mr. Dang Quang Ngoc, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of the Ward, informed: The inspection team recorded a landslide in the area adjacent to Mo Bach stream. Although there are no signs of direct danger to the project, the risk is there. We have worked with TTB Group Joint Stock Company - the investor. The enterprise said that it has hired a consulting unit to design a solid embankment and committed to speed up the progress. The Ward requested the enterprise to quickly complete the design plan, submit it to the professional agency for appraisal and agreement for implementation.

In Quan Trieu ward, the authorities coordinated with Thai Nguyen Irrigation Exploitation One Member Co., Ltd. and the provincial Irrigation - Disaster Prevention Sub-Department to inspect, evaluate the current situation and propose solutions.
The units agreed that it is necessary to implement a project to invest in longer, more solid embankments, located at the correct bends of the water flow and landslide points to completely overcome this situation, while combining the improvement of the drainage system and environmental protection.
According to experts, to completely handle the problem, there needs to be a comprehensive and synchronous solution between the embankment system, drainage and wastewater treatment. Temporary solutions only help to control the situation and do not guarantee long-term safety.
Currently, TTB Group Joint Stock Company is completing the design of the embankment to submit to the functional units for further review and consultation on suitable plans, prioritizing implementation during the dry season. While waiting, residents still have to temporarily reinforce themselves and move their belongings to higher floors every time there is heavy rain.
People in this area hope that relevant agencies and businesses will coordinate to implement sustainable solutions to avoid landslides and pollution lasting through many rainy and stormy seasons, affecting the lives of hundreds of households on both sides of the stream.
