The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport said that after a pilot period, the Phu My Hung area electric bus route has carried out nearly 82,000 trips, serving more than 220,000 passengers.
A type of electric car is being proposed for piloting the transport of tourists in the Ho Chi Minh City area.
Previously, the electric bus route operated by Mai Linh Company in the Zoo and Botanical Garden area and 23-9 Park had stopped operating since June 2021.
In addition, Saigon Public Transport Company Limited has also proposed to pilot the use of four-wheeled electric vehicles to transport tourists in the city. Currently, this company is completing the project, updating according to the conclusion of the Party Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee on the policy of continuing to pilot some types of passenger transport services in the area.
The Department of Transport of the city assessed that the electric vehicles have met the travel needs of a segment of passengers, especially tourists in the central area and new urban areas. Thereby, contributing to reducing environmental pollution in public transport due to the use of electric vehicles.
However, the current limitation is that the number of passengers on the operating routes is still low, the demand is mainly concentrated in the evening, increasing on weekends, holidays and Tet. As a result, investors have not been able to ensure operating costs.
To effectively exploit this type of transport, the HCM City Department of Transport has proposed a number of management solutions such as: four-wheeled vehicles (running on electricity or biofuel) can operate on roads with limited width for bus traffic or serve as connections to other means of public transport.
Currently, the city has many tourist destinations in District 1 (about 30 locations, an average of 5 locations/km2 ). ), District 5 (about 17 locations, an average of 5 locations/km 2 ). Operating on a fixed route and schedule will not promote the advantage of flexible service according to the needs of residents and tourists in the pilot area. Therefore, the city only needs to regulate the limited scope (not required by route) and operating time for this vehicle.
For ease of management, vehicles need to be registered annually and use journey monitoring devices as prescribed for cars participating in the transport business. Enterprises have transport software applications for passengers to register for services and provide accounts for State management agencies to monitor. The City People's Committee will be the unit that specifically regulates the time, scope of operation, procedures, and procedures for permitting and organizing the management of passenger transport by four-wheeled motor vehicles.
