At the same time, domestic tourists reached 3.5 million arrivals, an increase of 1.2% over the same period in 2023, bringing the number in the first 10 months of 2024 to an estimated nearly 31 million arrivals.
Notably, tourism revenue in October reached VND16,251 billion, up 11.4% over the previous year. In the first 10 months of the year, total revenue reached VND156,649 billion, reaching 82.4% of the target set for 2024.
Going into the numbers of the sectors, the Ho Chi Minh City Statistics Office recorded that the revenue from accommodation and catering services alone reached VND 110,733 billion, an increase of 8.9% over the same period in 2023. Of which, revenue from accommodation increased sharply by 26.7%, while revenue from catering increased by 6.6%.
In October 2024 alone, accommodation and catering services are estimated to reach VND 12,119 billion, accounting for 11.1% of total consumption in Ho Chi Minh City, up 2.7% over the previous month and 8.7% over the same period.
The tourism sector in Ho Chi Minh City also recorded impressive growth thanks to stimulus policies and an increase in international visitors. Tourism revenue in October reached VND2,655 billion, down 0.3% compared to the previous month but still up 1.4% compared to the same period in 2023.
Notably, in the first 10 months of 2024, tourism service revenue reached a high level of VND 32,255 billion, a sharp increase of 46.7% over the same period last year.
Ho Chi Minh City’s tourism revenue has increased sharply due to many factors. Among them is the increase in the number of international visitors, especially from key markets such as Korea, Japan, and Europe, which has contributed greatly to tourism revenue.
Ho Chi Minh City has promoted its image through international events and booths at fairs, typically ITB Asia 2024 in Singapore.
The city has promoted MICE tourism (meetings, incentives, exhibitions) with many preferential policies and special support for large groups of guests. This not only attracts international visitors to attend the event, but also promotes spending in the hotel, food and beverage , and travel services sectors.
The inter-regional tourism development cooperation program extends the length of stay and entertainment for tourists. Ho Chi Minh City continues to cooperate with 13 provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta and the Southeast region to develop new tourism products.
The program to vote for attractive destinations and the project to develop regional linkage products with the Mekong Delta are also strategic steps to attract domestic and international tourists to experience the unique destinations of each region.
"Cultural events and activities not only contribute to promoting the image but also boost spending by tourists in the city," said a representative of the City Department of Tourism.
