On July 15, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health said it had sent a document to the Department of Home Affairs regarding the renaming of district-level public health service units under the Department of Health when implementing the two-level local government organization model.
According to the Department of Health, the name change is a necessary step to realize the policy of the Central and City Party Committee on rearranging administrative units and public service units in the city. After the district-level administrative units cease to operate according to the provisions of Conclusion 137-KL/TW of the Politburo , district-level hospitals will no longer bear the old administrative unit name but will be given a new name, in accordance with the place name, historical-cultural characteristics or geographical location.
In this phase, 17 district-level hospitals were renamed. Some notable units include:
District 1 Hospital changed to Tan Dinh Hospital; District 4 Hospital changed to Khanh Hoi Hospital; District 6 Hospital changed to Binh Phu Hospital; District 7 Hospital changed to Nguyen Thi Thap Hospital; District 8 Hospital changed to Chanh Hung Hospital; District 11 Hospital changed to Lanh Binh Thang Hospital; District 12 Hospital changed to Trung My Tay Hospital.
Some hospitals kept their place names but removed the phrase "district" or "county", such as Binh Tan District Hospital changed to Binh Tan Hospital; Go Vap District Hospital changed to Go Vap Hospital...
The hospitals after the name change still retain their functions, tasks, organizational structure and personnel. The conversion does not change the operational structure, ensuring the medical examination and treatment process takes place smoothly.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health said that the process of consulting the People's Committees of districts, towns and Thu Duc City before submitting to the City People's Committee received high consensus. This name change aims to clearly demonstrate the connectivity in the new organizational model, helping people more conveniently access health services and identify the direct management agency.
It is expected that in the coming time, the Department of Health will continue to review and complete the regulations on specific functions and tasks for each unit after the name change, and at the same time update the management information system to avoid confusion in administrative and professional work.
