The People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City has just issued a decision to reorganize Saigon General Hospital by merging it into Gia Dinh People's Hospital under the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health .

Accordingly, from January 1, 2026, Saigon General Hospital officially ceased operations. All functions, tasks, organizational structure, personnel, facilities, equipment, finance, assets, etc. and related rights and obligations were transferred to Gia Dinh People's Hospital for continued management, exploitation and use in accordance with the provisions of law.

After reorganization, Gia Dinh People's Hospital is a public health service unit under the Department of Health, has legal status, its own headquarters, seal, account, and is allowed to open accounts at the State Treasury and banks according to the provisions of law.

The headquarters of Gia Dinh People's Hospital after reorganization includes 2 facilities: Main facility at No. 1 No Trang Long, Gia Dinh ward and facility 2 at No. 125 Le Loi, Ben Thanh ward, Ho Chi Minh City.

In June 2025, Gia Dinh People's Hospital officially put into operation the Satellite Clinic at Saigon General Hospital.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health assessed that Saigon General Hospital is located in the city center, where many domestic and international tourists come. Not to mention that it is also very convenient for people to go to the hospital by metro.

Previously, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee officially approved the plan to establish Tu Du Hospital, branch 2, in Can Gio.

The hospital is oriented to have a scale of 300 beds, including 9 clinical departments, 3 paraclinical departments and 3 functional rooms, providing comprehensive and high-quality medical services.

This is the result of nearly a year of preparation, under the direction of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health and the coordination of many leading hospitals such as: Tu Du, Children's Hospital, Dental Hospital, Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital, Eye Hospital, Dermatology Hospital, Le Van Thinh Hospital, People's Hospital 115...

Proposal to open second facilities of many hospitals in Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Binh Duong (old)

Recently, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health has proposed to allocate land from the old Ba Ria Provincial Hospital and the old Le Loi Hospital to open a second facility of specialized oncology and obstetrics hospitals.

Specifically, the Department of Health has sent a document to the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee and the Standing Committee of the City People's Committee, requesting the City leaders to approve the policy for specialized hospitals at the end of the line in obstetrics and gynecology (Tu Du Hospital or Hung Vuong Hospital) to deploy a second facility at the old Le Loi Hospital (address 22 Le Loi, Vung Tau ward).

At the same time, propose the City leaders to approve the policy for the Oncology Hospital to deploy a second facility at the old Ba Ria Hospital (address 13 Pham Ngoc Thach, Ba Ria ward).

In Binh Duong (old), the Department of Health also proposed that the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee approve the assignment of the Tuberculosis and Lung Disease Hospital as the second facility of Pham Ngoc Thach Hospital and the Mental Health Hospital as the fourth facility of the Mental Hospital.
