According to the Russian head of state, the first of these challenges is the restructuring of global energy relations in the context of the emergence of new centers of economic development and growing energy consumption, especially in the countries of the Southern Hemisphere.

In addition, the supply chain in the global gas market is also changing. Gas consumption increased steadily in the Asia- Pacific region, the Middle East and Latin America, while consumption in Europe was lower than in 2019 due to a decline in industrial production.

According to President Putin, coal still accounts for a significant proportion of the global energy balance, but there are clear differences between regions: it is decreasing in Western countries but increasing in Asian countries.

With the shift of global business activities to the Asia- Pacific region, the Russian leader believes that the coal market will remain important and strong for decades to come.

According to Mr. Putin, the demand for oil is also increasing. According to estimates, global oil demand this year will be about 104.5 million barrels/day, an increase of more than 1 million barrels compared to 2024.

The second important global trend is the growing role of the electricity sector. It is estimated that global electricity production will double in the next 25 years and about 85% of the additional demand will come from outside the developed economies, that is, from countries in the Global South. In this context, President Putin said that energy companies should not pass on costs to users but need more flexible solutions such as regulatory innovation, electricity demand management and investment support mechanisms for the fuel and energy sectors.

The third feature of modern energy that the Russian President mentioned is the technological sovereignty of countries producing oil, gas and other energy sources.

Mr. Putin emphasized the need to proactively transform the position of energy-producing countries from equipment buyers to technology leaders, and establish comprehensive energy sovereignty at the national level from resource exploitation and processing to finished product transportation.

The forum "Russian Energy Week" was established by the Decree of the Government of Russia in 2016, organized by the Roscongress Foundation, the Ministry of Energy of Russia with the support of the Moscow City Government.

The Forum attracted the participation of more than 5,000 delegates from about 84 countries, with over 250 energy companies, more than 1,200 experts and more than 70 events.

In addition to the main agenda, there will be an exhibition presenting Russia's energy achievements, the 4th Scientific and Practical Conference to discuss key issues in the scientific and technological development of complex fuel and energy industries, digital transformation, energy security, forecasting in the energy sector, statistics.
