The leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee directed that in the remaining time of 2024, the city will organize a conference to promote the implementation of the National Target Program on new rural construction associated with urbanization in rural areas of Ho Chi Minh City.
Accordingly, the Conference will evaluate the results of implementing activities and tasks after more than 3 years of implementing the National Target Program on New Rural Construction in the city for the period 2021-2025, thereby pointing out the advantages, difficulties, advantages and disadvantages, causes, drawing lessons and proposing solutions, directions and tasks for implementing the New Rural Construction Program in the following years.

The conference is also an opportunity for the city to deploy contents related to the Project on new rural construction in Ho Chi Minh City for the period of 2021-2025, which was approved by the City People's Council on May 19, 2024, with a total estimated implementation capital of more than VND 56,345 billion. At the same time, the city directed the plan to implement the National Target Program on new rural construction in the area in 2024 with a specific goal that by the end of 2024, 2/5 districts (Cu Chi, Hoc Mon) will be recognized as advanced new rural districts, and at least 28/56 communes (50%) will meet the advanced new rural commune standards in the area.
Currently, suburban districts of Ho Chi Minh City are promoting the implementation of the National Target Program on New Rural Development for the 2021-2025 period. In particular, many localities have deployed new approaches and new models to help increase the economic value of agriculture and rural areas in the locality, thereby contributing to helping the locality move towards urban agriculture, promoting the overall socio-economic development of the city.
Typically, the implementation of the National Target Program on New Rural Development in Can Gio District has promoted the emergence of many effective agricultural economic models. In particular, it is necessary to mention the application of science and technology to improve the traditional salt making profession in terms of productivity and quality. Thanks to the support of local authorities and the application of scientific and technological advances in production to increase the economic value of salt grains, currently, Can Gio District people have switched to salt production by crystallizing salt on canvas, creating high-quality, easy-to-consume and high-value products. The average yield is 70 - 80 tons/ha and the quality of the salt grains is clean, even and beautiful.
Similarly, implementing the National Target Program on New Rural Development associated with urbanization in the area, Cu Chi district has issued a plan to convert 43.6 hectares of rice fields to crops with higher economic efficiency; diversify agricultural products to increase the value of agricultural products... The district's policy is to develop organic agriculture and circular agriculture to minimize environmental pollution, bring a clean green ecological environment, and meet the development requirements of Ho Chi Minh City.
The city leaders also requested to continue the plan to implement model new rural communes with a list of proposed infrastructure works to implement advanced new rural areas and model new rural areas in districts and communes in the period of 2021-2025; relevant departments and branches complete documents to guide localities in implementing the criteria for building advanced new rural districts, advanced new rural communes, and model new rural communes associated with urbanization.
The leader of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee also said that the Conference will launch the emulation movement "The whole city joins hands to build new rural areas associated with urbanization in rural areas of Ho Chi Minh City" for the period 2021-2025.
