Ho Chi Minh City is promoting the transformation of industrial parks (IPs) towards ecological and sustainable development, with the ambition of shaping a leading production - logistics - seaport ecosystem in the region.

This is a notable sharing of Mr. Bui Minh Tri, Head of the Management Board of Ho Chi Minh City Export Processing and Industrial Zones (Hepza) at the event organized by VTV9 in coordination with the Vietnam Industrial Zone Information Portal (VIZ).

According to Mr. Bui Minh Tri, after merging its borders with Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau , Ho Chi Minh City is facing a strategic turning point. The formation of an integrated industrial - logistics - seaport zone will bring about leading scale and competitiveness in the region, helping Ho Chi Minh City affirm its central role in the global supply chain.

Ho Chi Minh City transforms pure production zones into industrial ecosystems

Nationwide, there are currently more than 400 industrial parks and 1,000 industrial clusters (ICs), contributing over 10% of GDP. Of the total 180,000 hectares of industrial land, about 80,000 hectares remain unexploited, creating large room for the development of new-generation industrial parks - smart, high-tech, environmentally friendly production. This is an orientation in line with the 4.0 Industrial Revolution and the commitment to net zero emissions at COP26.

Ho Chi Minh City alone has 66 industrial parks and export processing zones in operation, accounting for the largest proportion in the country. The city is not only a center of finance, services, technology, and high-quality human resources, but also the “heart” of industrial production with complete infrastructure and outstanding logistics advantages.

When the three pillars - industry, logistics, seaports - are connected by expressways, logistics centers and deep-sea ports, a complete manufacturing ecosystem will be formed, from research, manufacturing, production to storage and export.

The head of Hepza said that in the future, Ho Chi Minh City needs to transform its model from a "pure production zone" to a "green industrial - service - urban ecosystem", focusing on attracting high-tech industries, new materials, auto parts, electronics and supporting industries. In particular, it is necessary to develop green infrastructure, renewable energy and smart governance, towards the goal of green - sustainable - self-reliant industry.
