Ba Hon Dam, located in Son Hai commune, consists of three small islands: Dam Duoc Island, Dam Duong Island, and Dam Gieng Island. The three islands are situated opposite each other, forming a triangle, with a shallow, calm lagoon in the middle. A unique feature is that at low tide, visitors can walk from one island to another amidst the clear blue water – a rare experience in many other coastal areas.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Be, a resident of Ba Hon Dam, Dam Duoc Island is famous for its colorful pebble beaches and distinctive vegetation such as mangrove trees. Dam Duong Island impresses with its clean, golden sand and crystal-clear water. Meanwhile, Dam Gieng Island retains its pristine beauty with a small freshwater well located in the middle of the island, creating a rustic and peaceful atmosphere.

To reach Ba Hon Dam, visitors can travel to Kien Luong commune by bus, car, or motorbike, then continue by boat to the islands. For larger groups, renting a private boat is a convenient option for sightseeing and exploration. Unlike many other coastal destinations that require boats or canoes to travel between islands, at Ba Hon Dam, visitors can wade into the sea. The distance between the three islands is only a few tens of meters, and the water level is usually only waist- or chest-deep, making it quite safe to navigate when the sea is calm. The feeling of walking on the fine sand at the bottom of the sea, amidst the cool water, is a particularly enjoyable experience for many first-time visitors.
Besides its beautiful natural scenery, Ba Hon Dam is also blessed with abundant seafood. The shallow lagoon between the three islands is home to many types of clams, oysters, and snails. Tourists can easily find fresh shellfish by simply strolling along the beach. On calm days, visitors can even rent boats to fish for fish and squid, fully enjoying the peaceful life of the local fishermen. “The feeling of walking on the soft sand or the small pebbles on the seabed, with the cool water, is truly a wonderful experience. This is also a unique spot for taking Instagram-worthy photos,” shared Ms. Tran Ngoc Hau, a tourist from Ca Mau province.

After hours of fun, what many tourists remember most is enjoying fresh seafood right on the island. Simple dishes like grilled scallops with scallions and butter, boiled green crab, or spicy and sour grouper hotpot, with their distinctly Western Vietnamese flavors, are unforgettable. Sitting in the shade by the shore amidst the gentle sound of the waves and enjoying the fruits of their labor, Ba Hon Dam offers a sense of peace and intimacy rarely found elsewhere.
