Along with many other unique activities, tourists from near and far are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to experience tours and routes on the salt fields during the Vietnam Salt Festival in Bac Lieu. Compared to many other localities with traditional salt-making industries in the country, the homeland of the "Dạ cổ hoài lang" folk song has many potentials and advantages to transform the salt fields and salt-making craft into an interesting product to attract tourists.

RICH IN DEVELOPMENT ADVANTAGES

The idea of developing tourism tours on the salt fields of Bac Lieu has actually been gaining attention for several years now, not just recently, since the salt-making craft was recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2020. During surveys of the province's tourism products, domestic travel companies and the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism have repeatedly discussed how to exploit the salt-making craft and the possibility of connecting other products with the salt fields. However, for more than four years, the tourism route to the coastal salt fields has yet to be established, leaving some disappointment for both tourists and travel agencies.

Mr. To Minh Thang, Director of Viet Thang Tourism Company ( Ho Chi Minh City), shared: “During my survey of potential destinations in Bac Lieu, I was impressed by the introduction to the unique salt-making process, especially the salt-raking stage, which has become a beautiful picture of labor. In particular, Bac Lieu salt has a mild salty taste with a sweet aftertaste, without bitterness or astringency. It is processed into many products and used as an ingredient in dishes that are not only delicious but also good for health. With these existing values and advantages, I very much look forward to linking tours and routes if Bac Lieu transforms the value of salt and the salt production industry to develop unique tourism products of this coastal region.”
