Tran Thanh stated that he clarified the situation to avoid misunderstandings among viewers due to discrepancies in the revenue figures for the film "Mai".
Since its release during the Lunar New Year holiday, director Tran Thanh's film "Mai" has consistently maintained its appeal at the box office and has seen its revenue steadily increase.
According to statistics from Box Office Vietnam - an independent box office monitoring unit, as of March 1st, the film Mai has surpassed 500 billion VND, breaking the record of the film Nha Ba Nu, becoming the highest-grossing Vietnamese film ever.

Many fans have sent congratulatory messages to director Tran Thanh, as he is the owner of three films that topped the Vietnamese box office in terms of revenue (Mai, Nha Ba Nu, Bo Gia).
However, on the afternoon of March 2nd, director Tran Thanh posted on his personal Facebook page, denying the information that Mai had achieved a revenue of 500 billion VND.
Tran Thanh stated that he was unclear about the formula and statistical technology used by Box Office Vietnam, and believed that the figures compiled by the organization were only "relatively accurate" compared to the actual numbers, not completely precise.
Tran Thanh emphasized: "The numbers you see on Box Office Vietnam are statistics compiled by an independent unit, not part of the film Mai's distribution system, so the accuracy is only approximate and for reference only."

The actor also stated that he clarified this issue to avoid misunderstandings among viewers, as the box office revenue for the film Mai that he announced was lower than the figure reported by Box Office Vietnam.
A reporter from Dan Tri newspaper contacted the film distributor of "Mai," and they stated that according to their statistics, the film has currently recorded a revenue of 480 billion VND after 20 days of release.
Previously, in an interview with Dan Tri newspaper regarding the discrepancy in box office figures for the film Mai, the distributor explained: "The total amount displayed directly on Box Office Vietnam includes tickets pre-ordered by viewers for subsequent screenings."
Typically, we compile the exact ticket sales figures for today at 12 noon the following day. That's why there's a discrepancy."

Speaking to a reporter from Dan Tri newspaper about the data, Mr. Nguyen Khanh Duong - Founder of Box Office Vietnam - said that all data for Box Office Vietnam is collected and compiled from publicly available ticket sales data from domestic cinema chains.
The founder of Box Office Vietnam also admitted that Box Office Vietnam's figures are not 100% accurate compared to the internal figures of the film distributors.
"It's impossible for data from a third party to be 100% accurate compared to the internal data of the issuer. This is true in any field of statistical data," he explained.
However, Mr. Duong affirmed that Box Office Vietnam's data scanning algorithm has improved over time. According to his assessment, the margin of error compared to the actual number of tickets sold is about 5%.
