In the qualifying round, Tran Thi Nhi Yen only ranked 5th out of 8 athletes in the finals. However, against very strong opponents from the continent, she competed excellently to win a medal.
Starting in lane 4, Nhi Yen made an impressive start and joined the top group in the 7th second. However, as the 21-year-old Vietnamese athlete overtook Japan's Yamagata, Singapore's Veronica Shanti Periera also made a strong breakthrough to take second place, behind China's Liang Xiaojing.
As a result, Xiaojing won the Gold medal with 11.37 seconds, Periera won the Silver medal with 11.41 seconds and Nhi Yen won the Bronze medal with 11.54 seconds. This is not the best achievement of the athlete from Long An , because she completed the 100m distance with 11.40 seconds, setting a national youth record and winning the Silver medal at the 2024 U20 Asia.

The 100m and 200m sprints are Nhi Yen's forte. She will be on the national team from 2023, after winning the 100m Gold medal at the 2022 National Games . Winning medals at the 32nd SEA Games, the 19th ASIAD and now the Asian Athletics Championships, Nhi Yen has become the medal hope of Vietnamese athletics at major tournaments.
The 2025 Asian Athletics Championships will take place from May 27 to 31. The Vietnamese delegation includes 16 athletes. In addition to Nhi Yen, there are also Nguyen Thi Oanh (1,500m, 5,000m), Nguyen Trung Cuong (3,000m hurdles), Sam Van Doi, Luong Duc Phuoc (800m, 1,500m), Quach Thi Lan (400m hurdles), Nguyen Thi Ngoc, Nguyen Thi Hang, Hoang Thi Minh Hanh (4x400m women) and Huynh Thi My Tien (100m hurdles)...
After Nhi Yen's first medal, hopefully Vietnam will compete well in the following days, including the goal of defending the Asian Gold medal in the 4x400m event won in Thailand 2024.
