According to Mr. Gates, the opportunity to win the AI race is divided equally between startups and technology giants.
“I would be disappointed if Microsoft didn’t join the race, but I’m impressed with some of the startups, including Inflection,” Gates said. Inflection.AI is a startup co-founded by former DeepMind CEO Mustafa Suleyman.
Gates added that it will be some time before this powerful digital agent of the future becomes widely used. Until then, businesses will continue to incorporate AI systems like OpenAI’s ChatGPT into their own products, according to CNBC News.
Governments race to regulate AI tools
Gates also discussed medical development efforts at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which he founded, saying AI will drive innovation in the space and contribute to the research of more advanced medicines.
Although the inner workings of the human brain remain a mystery to scientists , the Microsoft co-founder believes humanity is getting closer to creating drugs to cure diseases like Alzheimer's. According to him, human trials of such a new drug could take place in 10 years.
He also likened the rise of general AI technologies that can generate engaging text as “a game changer,” and one that will impact office workers.
