On April 21, Da Nang City Police launched a high-point campaign to attack and suppress crimes and law violations related to the use of high technology and cyberspace, as well as to raise awareness among the public. In particular, Da Nang City Police warned about scams taking advantage of the April 30 - May 1 holidays.
Fall into the trap of cheap rooms and cheap tickets
The Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department of Da Nang City Police warns of online fraud during this holiday.
A common trick is to impersonate Fanpages and websites of reputable hotels, resorts, and travel companies to fraudulently book rooms, tours, and cheap airline tickets. When people and tourists need to find accommodation or travel services, the scammers ask for a deposit and then block communication.
In particular, by impersonating airlines or official ticket agents, scam groups often post attractive advertisements such as "hot tickets, super cheap prices, limited quantity" to attract customers. Some even suggest buying in bulk for organizations and agencies to profit from the price difference.

The Economic Police Department of Da Nang City Police cited that, previously, at the end of March, the Investigation Police Agency of Da Nang City Police temporarily detained Pham Do Thanh Tinh (40 years old, former Director of Thanh Thien Tourism Company Limited, headquartered in My An Ward, Ngu Hanh Son District, Da Nang City) for fraud and property appropriation.
Investigation results determined that Tinh took advantage of the cover of a travel company to commit organized fraud through the form of inviting business cooperation, selling tours, travel tickets, and resort vouchers at preferential prices.
Tinh's product packages, room rates, and airfares are always "rock-bottom cheap," so partners and tourists trust him and transfer deposits. Tinh embezzled 2 billion VND to pay off debt and then fled.
One of the most defrauded victims by Tinh was Ms. HHN, director of a travel company in Hanoi (over 1 billion VND) with the trick of selling cheap rooms at high-end resorts in the Central region.
Don't just rely on high engagement
Another trick is to fake receipts, payment invoices, or request a second transfer of money under the pretext of a system error to continue defrauding the victim into transferring more money.
Next is the trick of taking over social networks, impersonating acquaintances to ask for money to deposit for rooms, tours, airline tickets..., then appropriating it.

"To avoid becoming a victim, the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention of Da Nang City Police recommends that people pay attention to important things when conducting any transaction. In particular, you should only buy tickets through the airline's official website or authorized agents. Carefully check the Fanpage, phone number, and contact address. Don't be fooled by high interaction, that does not guarantee reliability," the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention recommends.
Da Nang City Police also warned against transferring deposits to unclear accounts, especially without a contract or specific confirmation, especially through social media channels.
Online fraudsters are targeting the April 30 and May 1 holidays, preying on people's lack of caution with promotions and incentives that are too high compared to the market.
