The Vietnam Boxing Federation has yet to receive a response from Mr. Luu Tu Bao.

The Vietnam Boxing Federation (VBF) is making efforts to maintain activities from organizing tournaments to preparing forces for the 33rd SEA Games in December in Thailand in the context of VBF President Luu Tu Bao's absence for more than half a year.

The fact that Mr. Luu Tu Bao has not appeared in Vietnam for a long time due to legal troubles in the US has made many people worried about the activities of VBF. However, after the recent meeting of the VBF Executive Committee, it showed the initiative of the members of the Standing Committee. Mr. Nguyen Duy Hung, Vice President and General Secretary of VBF, was authorized to run VBF. Activities in the national boxing competition system such as the national strong team tournament and the youth tournament are still taking place as scheduled. In October, the national boxing championship is also guaranteed to take place in Ho Chi Minh City.

The funding for VBF's activities up to now and in the future is also handled by Mr. Luu Tu Bao's company. It is known that if Mr. Bao does not return to Vietnam in March 2026, the VBF Executive Board will meet to elect a new replacement president (VBF does not hold a congress for the term). Mr. Bao is also holding the position of President of the Ho Chi Minh City Mixed Martial Arts Federation. This position is currently run by Ms. Do Thi Thu Trang, Vice President and Chief of Office of VBF, after the Executive Board of the Ho Chi Minh City Mixed Martial Arts Federation met and agreed.

C GENDER TESTING FOR FEMALE BOXERS

One of the key tasks of VBF this year is to coordinate with the Vietnamese boxing department to build a force to participate in the 33rd SEA Games. The Vietnamese boxing team with 31 athletes (12 men, 19 women) trained in Hanoi , Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang. According to information from the boxing department of the Vietnam Sports Administration, boxing at the 33rd SEA Games has 17 events (9 events for men, 8 events for women). However, each country can only register 1 athlete for each event, so the athletes will compete fiercely and the coaching staff must choose athletes with talent and high performance.

The national boxing tournament for strong teams took place as scheduled despite the absence of VBF President Luu Tu Bao.

At the 32nd SEA Games in 2023, the Vietnamese boxing team won 2 gold medals thanks to Ha Thi Linh and Bui Phuoc Tung. These are still the 2 faces expected to shine at the 33rd SEA Games despite fierce competition from other countries, especially host Thailand. In addition, Vietnamese boxing also looks forward to potential boxers such as Vo Thi Kim Anh, Nguyen Huyen Tran, Tran Thi To Nhu, Hoang Thi Ngoc Mai, Ngo Ngoc Linh Chi, Ngo Thi Mai Chuc...

Recently, the World Boxing Federation required female athletes to undergo sex testing when participating in the world championships, similar to the requirement of the World Athletics Federation. Since then, experts and fans have wondered whether sex testing will be carried out at the upcoming SEA Games 33 or not. Yesterday, a VBF leader said that up to this point, there has been no official announcement or request regarding sex testing for female boxers at the 33rd SEA Games. For boxing at the 33rd SEA Games, currently, only female athletes are required to have a certificate confirming that they are not pregnant.
