Recently, a coffee shop in the center of Ho Chi Minh City became the center of discussion on social networks after a group of customers gave it a 1-star review on Google. The cause of the incident is said to be because the group of customers were reminded by the shop staff to speak quietly while the group was playing the Werewolf game at the shop.

According to a post on a social media platform, the restaurant said it served a group of 8 customers at a branch. The group of customers were playing around "by accident, laughing and screaming loudly". Although the staff felt embarrassed to remind the customer, because within 30 minutes, 4 other customers in the restaurant complained about the excessive noise, so the staff gently and politely asked the customer to lower his voice while playing the game, according to the restaurant.

The restaurant later confirmed that it had received a "1-star storm" with many negative reviews. Among them, there was a comment confirming that it was a customer of the restaurant, with the following review content:

"Yesterday, two friends brought laptops to study, turned up the speakers, and talked louder than everyone else. We were just sitting there talking normally and playing games, but the staff reminded us because of the noise that the other two friends complained about.

I find this very unreasonable, because clearly this is a place to chat and take pictures, not a library or a study space. Everyone has the right to use the common space equally, don't let customers give you the right to be quiet and bother others like that."

Controversy over the use of coffee shop space

The authenticity of the above information is unclear, however, from here, social networks began to explode with many conflicting controversies related to the use of coffee shop space.

Some opinions say that coffee shops are public spaces, where people who come to use the service can talk happily and comfortably. However, many comments agree with the way the shop handles it, saying that even though it is a public space, customers who come to public places need to behave moderately to avoid affecting those around them.

One account commented: "I'm on the customer's side. 1 star is too much but I will never come back. Why go to a coffee shop if you can't talk?" "I often come to this shop to work and read books. I support the shop so that it maintains the principle of respecting customers to maintain the style of the shop!", another nickname shared.

Ms. Le Thi Thanh Dung (26 years old), an office worker in Ho Chi Minh City, said that she often visits coffee shops to work, relax or meet friends. Knowing about this incident through social media, the girl expressed her perspective, saying that coffee shops are shared spaces, everyone uses them together, so we need to respect each other's experiences.

"Coffee shops are places where people meet and chat, so no one has the right to ask you to keep quiet. However, talking in a coffee shop should be moderate and not too loud to affect others," she shared.

The owner of a famous coffee shop in the central area of Ho Chi Minh City said that each coffee shop has different models and regulations for customers. Some places do not allow pets, some places require customers to keep their voices down to suit the style of the shop and the target customers.

"If it's not a shop with special requirements, most customers coming to coffee shops can laugh, have fun, and chat as lively as in my shop. Of course, if the customers are noisy enough to annoy many other customers around, as the shop owner, I also need to remind them gently and politely so that they don't feel uncomfortable," the shop owner shared. The shop owner said that in the more than a year of business, his shop has been lucky to have nice customers and no unfortunate situations have occurred.

According to current records, after the above scandal, the coffee shop has received support from many customers with many 5-star reviews on Google. What do you think about the above incident? Please share your views with Thanh Nien Newspaper in the comment section below.
