The 2023 Moc Quan – Nguyen Trong Quyen Cai Luong Competition has the participation of 34 contestants who are artists and actors working in Cai Luong theater at public and non-public art units nationwide. After the preliminary and semi-final rounds, 12 contestants were selected to compete in the final night.
In the final round, the contestants performed a mandatory vọng cổ song based on the random draw results. In addition, they answered questions from the judges about the life, career and contributions to the cải lương stage art of the late composer Mộc Quán – Nguyễn Trọng Quyền.
The Moc Quan - Nguyen Trong Quyen Cai Luong Competition is one of the activities in the series of events celebrating the 20th anniversary of Can Tho City being directly under the Central Government. At the same time, the competition aims to honor and recognize the contributions of the late composer Moc Quan - Nguyen Trong Quyen on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of his death (1953-2023). He is a pioneer composer of Can Tho, considered by the younger generation as a "father", with many contributions to the development of Cai Luong stage art in Can Tho and the South in general.
