On August 15th, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health organized a job fair for doctors who had just completed a pilot program of practical training at hospitals linked with health centers.
This activity aims to provide young doctors with opportunities to choose their workplaces in a transparent and fair manner. Ho Chi Minh City is also the first locality in the country to organize a Job Fair for young doctors participating in the pilot program of practical training at hospitals linked with health centers.
According to a report from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, a total of 270 doctors completed the 18-month practical training program at hospitals affiliated with health centers. 244 doctors participated in the Job Fair.
At the Job Fair, each unit was provided with a booth where young doctors could register for jobs. This was also where unit leaders could conduct quick interviews to identify the necessary skills for each position. Simultaneously, candidates could ask for more information about the unit before applying. Each doctor had three opportunities to choose a workplace, corresponding to three rounds of application. Of the 64 public medical facilities participating in the recruitment, 51 successfully recruited doctors for the positions they needed. The facility that recruited the most doctors was Thu Duc Regional General Hospital (21 doctors), followed by the Rehabilitation and Occupational Disease Hospital (20 doctors).
The final results regarding long-term workplaces are as follows: 18 doctors chose primary healthcare as their long-term workplace (from 13 district/county health centers); 39 doctors chose district-level hospitals (from 11 district/county hospitals and Thu Duc City); 141 doctors chose provincial-level hospitals (25 general and specialized hospitals in the city). In addition, 2 doctors chose the City Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and 1 doctor chose the Medical Examination Center.
In total, 203 out of 244 doctors who attended the Job Fair found suitable employment (representing 83.2%).
According to the Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, Tang Chi Thuong, these young doctors have undergone 18 months of practical training at hospitals alongside health stations in wards and communes. While at hospitals they practiced advanced techniques, at the health stations they participated in grassroots healthcare activities, especially initial medical examinations and treatment, and disease prevention and control. With the experience gained after 18 months of practice, these young doctors are capable of working in both treatment and preventive healthcare facilities.
Mr. Tang Chi Thuong added that for the first practical training program, the health department consulted with hospitals and agreed on the entire practical training program and training methods. Therefore, hospitals do not need to worry about transferring basic techniques to doctors after recruitment.
Speaking at the Job Fair, Ho Chi Minh City Party Secretary Nguyen Van Nen praised and congratulated the 270 young doctors who had completed 18 months of practical training at hospitals and health centers. Party Secretary Nguyen Van Nen emphasized that, with the knowledge they had gained in school and the challenging 18-month journey, these young doctors had acquired additional professional knowledge, life skills, and ethical values to equip them for their future dedication and service.
Party Secretary Nguyen Van Nen stated that it has long been illogical for many doctors to struggle to find work after graduating from medical school. Not everyone who graduates from medical school finds employment and can contribute to the healthcare of the people. Therefore, the willingness of agencies and units to welcome young doctors and create opportunities for them to choose their workplace is a very meaningful endeavor.
Party Secretary Nguyen Van Nen requested that Party committees and authorities at all levels of the city continue to direct the implementation of the spirit of Conclusion No. 14-KL/TW of the Politburo on the policy of encouraging and protecting dynamic, creative cadres who dare to think and act for the common good, and to further expand this innovative model into life to bring common value to the city.
