Safe children, happy families.

Every summer, the laughter of children fills homes with joy. But for many families in the Mekong Delta, including Can Tho City, this joy is always accompanied by worries about children's safety while playing near ponds, lakes, and canals. To equip their children with the necessary skills, many parents proactively enroll them in swimming lessons or enroll them in beneficial sports activities.

Many parents are interested in enrolling their children in swimming lessons during the summer.

With a large fish pond near their home and both husband and wife working all day, Ms. Danh Thi Chanh Da, residing in Area 19, Phu Loi Ward ( Can Tho City), was always worried about her children's safety, especially during the summer holidays. After much consideration, she and her husband decided to enroll their children in swimming lessons. "My children are very happy to be learning to swim and diligently practice to protect themselves. Since learning to swim, they have become more confident, and we feel much more at ease," Ms. Chanh Da shared.

Son Huy Thanh, the son of Ms. Chanh Da, excitedly said: “I really enjoy learning to swim because it’s fun and helps me protect myself. I always remember my parents’ advice to be careful when playing near rivers and water.”

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Trang, residing in Tra Canh A1 hamlet, Thuan Hoa commune, also enrolled her child in swimming lessons despite the distance between the school and her home. According to Ms. Trang, there are many rivers and canals near her house. The distance to and from swimming lessons is nearly 20km, but she and her husband don't mind; the important thing is that their child knows how to swim by the end of the course, only then will they feel at ease.

Responding to the needs of many families, numerous teachers and coaches have opened swimming classes with flexible schedules, making it easy for parents to choose a suitable course. Many dedicated "teachers" are eager to contribute to preventing drowning among children.

According to Mr. Ngo Trong Tin, a swimming coach for children in rural areas, this summer he will continue to open swimming classes at Ba Trinh 1 Primary School and Dai Hai 2 Primary School. Children from disadvantaged backgrounds will receive completely free tuition. “Every child who learns to swim means one less worry for one family. Parents need to regularly pay attention to and remind their children to stay away from dangerous areas,” Mr. Tin shared.

Besides the worry about drowning, many parents are also concerned that during the summer, their children might easily become engrossed in mobile phone games or focus solely on watching television instead of participating in physical activities. Therefore, many families have enrolled their children in sports classes and arts-related classes to improve their health, thinking skills, and talents, while keeping them away from electronic devices.

Sweating profusely during practice, Le Bao Khue, a student at the Soc Trang - Phu Son Table Tennis Training and Competition Center, always wears a bright smile, her hands and feet moving nimbly with each shot. Khue shared: “In the beginning, training was very difficult for me. There were times I wanted to quit, but my parents always encouraged me to try to exercise to stay healthy and avoid spending too much time on my phone. Now I feel very happy because I've improved in table tennis and made new friends.”

Mr. Huynh Hung Son, Director of the Soc Trang - Phu Son Table Tennis Training and Competition Center, said: "Summer is the time when many parents bring their children to practice sports, which not only helps children stay healthy but also creates a healthy environment for them to live confidently, be disciplined, and appreciate the care of their families."

Children are always like tender young shoots that need absolute care and protection. Therefore, playgrounds for physical education, sports, arts, and culture during the summer will be practical places to help children improve their physical fitness and develop perseverance and discipline... so that they can develop comprehensively.
