The war has long since ended, but the pain remains in Mother Gan’s memory. Recalling those years, Mother Gan said: “When I gave birth to my first son, my husband only had time to see his face once before going to war. When my son was only 3 months old, I received a death notice from my husband. During the chaos of the war, I carried my son everywhere to take refuge. To this day, I still don’t know where my husband is buried.” The war also took away my mother’s only son. To this day, she still hasn’t found the graves of her husband and son.
Despite her grief, Mother Gan always shows pride in her husband and children - those who sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland. Over the years, she has received attention not only from local authorities but also from mass organizations, especially union members and young people. Union member Ho Thi Thuy shared: "Every time I visit Mother Gan and listen to her stories, I understand more clearly the value of peace . That urges me to live more responsibly to be worthy of the sacrifice of my father and brother."
Youth Union members of Van Khanh Commune visited and presented gifts to Vietnamese Heroic Mother Nguyen Thi Gan
Secretary of Van Khanh Commune Youth Union Lam Thanh Sang shared: “The whole commune currently has only one Vietnamese Heroic Mother, Mother Gan. Taking care of, supporting and showing gratitude to our mother is not only a responsibility but also a great honor for us. In addition to monthly care, on holidays and Tet, the Youth Union visits, gives gifts and regularly monitors our mother's health. In addition, Van Khanh Commune Youth Union also organizes many traditional education programs such as the forum "Following the footsteps of our fathers and brothers", thematic activities, and coordinates with the young doctors' club to provide regular health care for Mother Gan. Youth Union members also regularly come to clean the house and celebrate her birthday.
The heart of Van Khanh's youth towards the heroic Vietnamese mother Nguyen Thi Gan is a testament to the morality of drinking water, remembering its source, thereby fueling the flame of patriotism and gratitude for the young generation.
