Artificial Intelligence Makes Cybersecurity a Matter of Survival

(Dan Tri) - With just 15 minutes and a paid AI account, hackers today can create a complete malware.

While AI is ushering in a new era of productivity and technological disruption, it is also reshaping the cybersecurity landscape in troubling ways.

The Cybersecurity Landscape Is More Complex Than Ever

At the Ignite on Tour Vietnam 2025 event organized by Palo Alto Networks on May 22, Mr. Simon Green - President of Asia - Pacific and Japan of this group - warned: artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming a powerful changing factor in the digital world , not only helping businesses accelerate but also inadvertently facilitating cyber attacks with unprecedented speed and sophistication.

"In the past, it took hackers 12 hours to create a malware. Now, with just an AI tool that costs about $200 a month, that time is reduced to 15 minutes," said Mr. Green. He also warned that many businesses only discover malware after it has quietly existed in the system for 3 years.

With the massive amount of data and the rapid deployment of AI, the attack targets are no longer limited: from the cloud, to endpoints, to the entire network infrastructure.

According to Palo Alto Networks, global investment in AI infrastructure is expected to reach $270 billion over the next three years - double the previous period. At the same time, the workforce using AI in their jobs is forecast to increase from 90 million (in 2024) to 400 million people in 2030.

Not to be left out of this trend, Vietnam is facing increasing risks of cyber attacks. In 2024, the country recorded more than 659,000 cyber security incidents. Nearly half of organizations have been victims, and in particular, 14.6% have suffered from ransomware attacks.

Palo Alto Networks’ Unit 42 - 2025 Global Incident Response Report found that of the 500 most serious cyber incidents globally, 86% resulted in significant financial or reputational damage to the affected organization. Notably, 70% of these incidents involved multi-surface attacks, simultaneously targeting cloud infrastructure, endpoints, and networks.

Cybersecurity becomes a matter of survival

Mr. Hoang Quang Huy - Director of Palo Alto Networks Vietnam - emphasized that Vietnam is a market with a fast digitalization speed, especially in the fields of fintech, e-commerce and manufacturing. However, awareness of information security is still limited.

Vietnamese users are different from other users in the region, which is their curiosity in cyberspace. "On the internet, Vietnamese people are very curious and want to explore new things," said Mr. Huy.

According to him, negative uses of AI are shared by many Vietnamese people on the dark web (dark web, anonymous access network). This has a huge impact on security and safety, and is spreading very quickly.

"Many organizations are still in the early stages of digital transformation, but are facing increasing security risks. Investment in cybersecurity platforms cannot be slower," Mr. Huy shared.

According to Mr. Simon Green, to protect organizations in the current context, it is necessary to shift to next-generation security platforms, powered by AI with three core characteristics:

Zero Trust - the system does not rely on assumptions, but checks the entire query.

Real-time security - from source code, cloud platform to Security Operations Center.

Intelligent prediction and response - automatically detect and stop threats before they strike.

"This is no longer a matter of choice, but a matter of survival if you want to survive in today's risky cyber environment," Mr. Green affirmed.

According to experts, besides technology, the human factor is still the key link. Training and raising security awareness for each employee, from leaders to technicians, is the first shield against increasingly unpredictable digital threats.
