Implementing policies for ethnic minorities

Son Duong District ( Tuyen Quang Province) currently has 29 communes and 1 town, with 400 villages and residential areas, and 22 ethnic groups living together; of which ethnic minorities account for nearly 47% of the district's total population. In recent years, the district has implemented policies of the Party and State to help ethnic minorities develop production and achieve sustainable poverty reduction.

To implement the policy of supporting decentralized domestic water supply under Project 1, the Ethnic Affairs Department of Son Duong district coordinated with 24 communes to provide over 2,000 stainless steel water tanks to ethnic minority households. In addition, the district invested in essential infrastructure serving production and daily life in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, and under sub-project 18 and project 6, which support investment in the construction of cultural and sports facilities and equipment in villages.

Specifically, in 2023, the district disbursed a total of over 13 billion VND to support the construction of 41 cultural centers in various villages. In 2024, the district continued to allocate nearly 5 billion VND to build new and complete the cultural center projects that began in 2023. These projects have proven effective, transforming the appearance of rural areas.

Chairman of Son Duong District People's Committee, Giang Tuan Anh, said: "When implementing the National Target Program 1719, the district faced many difficulties. However, with the strong determination of all levels of government to narrow the gap in socio-economic living standards between ethnic minority communities and developed economic regions, the district has implemented many comprehensive support policies, creating conditions for people in disadvantaged communes to have more motivation to strive for improvement."

Funding from the National Target Programs 1719 has significantly contributed to changing the face of rural areas, especially in the way of thinking and doing things in economic development and the lives of ethnic minority people; thousands of households have escaped poverty thanks to the practical policies of this program.
