Implementing policies for ethnic minorities

Son Duong district ( Tuyen Quang province) currently has 29 communes, 1 town, with 400 villages, residential groups and 22 ethnic groups living together; in which ethnic minorities account for nearly 47% of the district's population. In recent years, the district has implemented policies of the Party and State to help ethnic minorities have conditions to develop production and sustainably reduce poverty.

To implement the policy of supporting decentralized domestic water supply of Project 1, the Ethnic Affairs Department of Son Duong district has coordinated with 24 communes to provide support for more than 2,000 stainless steel water tanks to ethnic minority households. In addition, the district has also invested in essential infrastructure to serve production and life in ethnic minority and mountainous areas and sub-project 18, project 6 on supporting investment, construction of cultural and sports facilities and equipment in villages.

Specifically, in 2023, the district disbursed a total of more than 13 billion VND with the goal of supporting the construction of 41 cultural houses in villages. In 2024, the district continued to allocate nearly 5 billion VND in capital to build new and complete cultural house projects deployed from 2023. The projects and works have shown good effectiveness, changing the face of the countryside.

Chairman of Son Duong District People's Committee Giang Tuan Anh said: When implementing the National Target Program 1719, the district encountered many difficulties. However, with the strong determination of the authorities at all levels to narrow the gap in the socio-economic life of ethnic minorities compared to developed economic regions, the district has had many synchronous support policies, creating conditions for people in communes with many difficulties to have more motivation to strive to rise up.

Capital from the National Target Program 1719 has contributed to significantly changing the face of the countryside, especially in the way of thinking and working in economic development and the lives of ethnic minorities; thousands of households have escaped poverty thanks to the practical policies of this program.
