Specifically, according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), a missile unit of the North Korean army conducted drills off the country's western coast on February 26, under the supervision of leader Kim Jong-un. The drills aimed to "assert to the enemy the counter-attack capabilities of the North Korean army, the combat readiness of various nuclear warfare vehicles, and demonstrate the reliability of Pyongyang's nuclear deterrence capabilities."

The South Korean military said yesterday that it had detected signs of missile launch preparations since February 26 and tracked multiple cruise missiles after they were launched into the Yellow Sea at around 8 a.m. that day (local time).
