According to the results just announced by the Organizing Committee of the 2025 National Outstanding Athlete and Coach Selection, shooter Trinh Thu Vinh is the winner with 1,272 points, followed by Nguyen Thi Oanh (athletics, 751 points), Nguyen Dinh Bac (football, 693 points), Nguyen Thi Huong (canoeing, 551 points), and Nguyen Huy Hoang (swimming, 539 points).
Trinh Thu Vinh's win of the National Outstanding Athlete of 2025 title is well-deserved, as the shooter from the People's Police team had an extremely successful year of competition.
At the 33rd SEA Games, the shooter born in 2000 delivered emotionally charged performances, taking viewers through a tense, breathtaking period before erupting in the joy of victory.
On the very first day of competition, tasked with leading the Vietnamese shooting team, Thu Vinh won the gold medal in the 10m air pistol team event (with Nguyen Thuy Trang and Trieu Thi Hoa Hong) and the gold medal in the 10m air pistol individual event.
In the following days of competition, the police force's shooters won two more gold medals in the women's 25m sport pistol and women's 25m team pistol events, and a silver medal in the mixed doubles 10m air pistol with Pham Quang Huy, concluding the SEA Games with a total of 4 gold medals and 1 silver medal.
Notably, among these four gold medals, Thu Vinh broke three records (in the 10m air pistol individual and team events for women, and the 25m air pistol individual event for women) - something no Vietnamese shooter has ever achieved in the history of the SEA Games.
At the continental level, Thu Vinh won one gold medal in the mixed 10m pistol event at the 2025 Asian Cup and one bronze medal at the 2025 Asian Championships. With these achievements, Thu Vinh joined the police force before winning the title of Outstanding Athlete of the Year, concluding a year full of remarkable accomplishments.
