On the morning of July 24, in Tuong Duong commune (Nghe An), two helicopters of the Northern Helicopter Company and Regiment 916, mobilized by the Ministry of National Defense , landed, carrying necessities to distribute to isolated areas due to the recent flood.
The two helicopters will carry essential supplies including food, clean water, medicine, life jackets, etc. The helicopters will drop the supplies at five locations in the communes of Muong Xen, Muong Tip, Nhon Mai, My Ly, and Bac Ly.
Colonel Pham Van Dung, Director of the Northern Helicopter Company (Army Corps 18, Ministry of National Defense) said that the unit's helicopter took off from Gia Lam airport at 6:30 a.m., landed at Vinh airport after 45 minutes and transported necessities to the "flood center".
" The biggest difficulty is determining the landing point because the unit cannot survey in advance. Therefore, landing depends entirely on the pilot's qualifications, experience and courage," said Colonel Pham Van Dung .
Helicopter rescue is considered a "lifeline" for people at the cut-off points when water still blocks the way, and mud rises up to a meter high, making it impossible for road rescue vehicles to reach.
According to a leader of the Nghe An Provincial Border Guard, as of 12 noon today, July 24, the relief team still could not reach the "flood center" and was stuck on the outer ring.
" We have been here since 2:30 a.m. on July 23, but the road is cut off, we cannot go further. We cannot go in from outside, we cannot go out from inside, we are forced to return to Con Cuong commune, to provide reinforcements there," he said.
Currently, the water level in Ky Son, Tuong Duong, My Ly communes... has receded a lot. However, in the communes downstream along National Highway 7A such as: Con Cuong, Anh Son, Do Luong, Thanh Chuong... the water level started to rise since yesterday afternoon. National Highway 7A section through Anh Son commune is almost full, in Con Cuong the water level rose so high that vehicles could not move.
In this situation, 2 helicopters of the Ministry of National Defense are expected to make 4-5 flights per day, each carrying 3-3.5 tons of cargo.
