On November 11, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce announced that it will apply temporary anti-dumping measures on imported spirits originating from the European Union (EU), starting from November 15.

The decision was made after a preliminary investigation found that EU producers were dumping some spirits products in the world's second-largest economy , causing significant damage to the domestic industry, according to China's Ministry of Commerce.

The move marks the latest escalation amid growing trade tensions between Beijing and the 27-member bloc.

China and the EU are major economic partners, but have been at odds in recent months over Beijing's massive electric vehicle subsidies for domestic industries, AFP reported.

Such support undermines the principle of free competition and contributes to the reduction of Chinese export prices, weakening European competitors, the alliance argues.

Meanwhile, Beijing has denied the allegations and accused the EU of trade protectionism.
