Chính phủ quyết định chuyển Trường ĐH Kinh tế TP. Hồ Chí Minh thành ĐH Kinh tế TP. Hồ Chí Minh
The Government has just decided to convert Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics into Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics is an autonomous public service unit under the Ministry of Education and Training , with legal status, its own seal and account.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics reorganizes its structure and operations on the basis of Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics in accordance with the provisions of the Law on Higher Education 2012 and the Law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Law on Higher Education 2018. The reorganization process must ensure normal operations, without causing loss or waste of finance and assets.

The Government also decided to amend Clause 12, Article 1 of Decision 960 dated August 6, 2018 of the Prime Minister promulgating the list of public service units under the Ministry of Education and Training as follows: “12. Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics”.

The Government assigns the University Council, the Chairman of the University Council, and the Rector of Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics to continue to perform their functions, tasks, and powers according to current regulations until the Minister of Education and Training decides to establish the University Council, recognize the Chairman of the University Council, and recognize the Director of Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics.

Thus, before restructuring, the Vietnamese name of the school was: Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, commonly known as UEH. After restructuring, the Vietnamese name is Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, commonly known as UEH, UEH University. The English name will remain the same as University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City.

Since 2021, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics has determined its development strategy to become a multidisciplinary and sustainable university by establishing 3 member schools including UEH Business School; UEH School of Economics, Law and Public Administration; UEH School of Technology and Design along with Vinh Long Branch.

Professor Nguyen Dong Phong, Chairman of the University Council, emphasized: “The model of a single-major, single-field university was born in Vietnam in the years after the country's reunification, providing a timely source of highly specialized human resources to serve the country's reconstruction process.

Nowadays, the practice of integration, the digital age, and global challenges lead to the inevitable development of the 'multidisciplinary university' model, with the priority of equipping multidisciplinary and multi-field specialized knowledge to solve contemporary problems and act for sustainable development. This is a step forward in internal strength and "quality", not just stopping at changing the name from university to university".

Accordingly, students graduating from different levels of training will still receive a diploma from Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics.

Prof. Dr. Su Dinh Thanh, Principal, said: "According to statistics of the 1,000 universities at the top of the QS World University Rankings, 96% are multidisciplinary and multi-field universities. Therefore, I believe that upgrading the model to a multidisciplinary and multi-field university is the basis for bringing UEH in particular and Vietnamese education in general to international standards."

To become a multidisciplinary, multi-field university, UEH has had a long and methodical preparation process with remarkable results.

Since 2021, UEH has determined its development strategy to become a multidisciplinary and sustainable university by establishing 3 member schools including UEH Business School, UEH School of Economics, Law and Public Administration, UEH School of Technology and Design along with Vinh Long Branch. The current training scale of the entire school is more than 36,000 students, with 38 undergraduate majors; 19 master's majors and 14 doctoral majors.
