Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education has a new rector.

(NLĐO) - The Ministry of Education and Training's recognition of the new rector of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education has brought to an end a three-year period during which the university was without a rector.

On January 24th, Minister Nguyen Kim Son signed a decision recognizing Associate Professor Dr. Le Hieu Giang as the Rector of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education for the period 2020-2025.

With this decision, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education enters a new, stable phase with a complete leadership structure, including three members of the board of directors and the chairman of the university council.

Associate Professor Dr. Le Hieu Giang appointed as Rector of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education.

Associate Professor Dr. Le Hieu Giang, born in 1972, is a former student of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education. He earned his PhD in 2003 from the Czech Technical University in Prague (Czech Republic). Afterward, he continued to dedicate himself to Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education for over two decades. He was appointed Associate Professor in 2012 at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education.

During his time at the University, he held various positions: Deputy Head of the Department of Scientific Management - International Relations - Postgraduate Studies; Deputy Head of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering; Deputy Head of the Training Department; Vice Rector and Head of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering; Vice Rector and Head of the Faculty of Information Technology.

He was twice assigned to be in charge of the school by the School Board, the first time in June 2022 and the second time from November 2022 to the end of October 2023. Before officially assuming the position of Rector, Associate Professor Dr. Le Hieu Giang was assigned as Acting Rector from November 1, 2023 to October 31, 2024, and then continued to be assigned as Acting Rector from October 2024 until his appointment. This occurred in the context that since May 2021, when the previous Rector retired, the school had been without a Rector.
