On the evening of March 10th, the 17th Asian Film Awards ceremony was held in Hong Kong, China.
The 2024 Asian Film Awards feature 35 films from 24 countries and regions competing in 16 categories, including Best Film, Best Director, and Best Actor and Actress.
Zhang Yimou receives a double award win.
Renowned Chinese director Zhang Yimou was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
This is considered a prestigious award given to professionals in the field of film who have had a significant impact on Asian cinema throughout their careers.
The film Full River Red, which he directed, also won the award for the highest-grossing Asian film of 2023.
With the success of *The Red River* , Zhang Yimou became the "king of the box office" at the age of 73.
The film was the highest-grossing movie of the Chinese Lunar New Year and of director Zhang Yimou's career, earning over 4 billion yuan (US$600 million).
Director Zhang Yimou expressed: "I feel very fortunate to have chosen filmmaking as my lifelong profession. Having been in the industry for over four decades, I am grateful to all those who appreciate my films."

In an interview after receiving the award, he shared his feelings about the important periods in Chinese and world cinema over the past decades.
According to Zhang Yimou, each era leaves its own mark. Ultimately, film has always been a bridge capable of connecting people's hearts.
Director Zhang also received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2023 Tokyo International Film Festival.
The Asian Film Awards are part of the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society, established in 2007.
Since 2014, the Asian Film Awards Academy, co-founded by three major international film festivals – Hong Kong, Busan, and Tokyo – has aimed to showcase outstanding Asian cinema to the international community.
