School awards full scholarship to male student who lost 4 relatives in Ha Long boat capsize

At the opening ceremony, the University of Transport Technology awarded a full scholarship to a new student who was a victim of the tragic boat capsize in Ha Long.

Among the thousands of students admitted to the University of Transport Technology in 2025, there is a new student with a very special situation. That is Nguyen Huu Phuoc ( Hanoi ), majoring in Artificial Intelligence and Smart Transportation.

According to the University of Transport Technology, Phuoc was the only lucky survivor in a family of five on a capsized boat in Ha Long Bay ( Quang Ninh ) last July. Phuoc’s parents and two sisters were never able to return.

In order to encourage, share, and help male students have conditions to study and live at school, the school decided to award a full scholarship including: 100% tuition fee exemption, living allowance support of 3 million VND/month, free dormitory accommodation for the entire duration of the course. The total value of the scholarship is about 250 million VND.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Hoang Long, Principal of the school, hopes that with this scholarship and the care and support of teachers and students, Phuoc will have a solid foundation to confidently step on the future path ahead.

"We also hope that Phuoc will consider the University of Transport Technology as his second home," Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Hoang Long said.

After the opening ceremony, Phuoc immediately returned home to hold a 49-day memorial service for his parents and two sisters. A group of officials and lecturers from the University of Transport Technology were also present at the family home, burning incense in memory and sending words of encouragement to the male student.

The school representative said that in addition to the scholarship worth 250 million VND, in the coming time, Phuoc will continue to receive support from the school's study encouragement programs, to help him firmly overcome difficulties and confidently pursue his studies.
