That is the comment of Mr. Dao Trong Khoa, Chairman of the Vietnam Logistics Services Association (VLA), when answering at a press conference during the World Congress of the International Federation of Freight Forwarders and Transport Associations - FIATA World Congress 2025 with the theme: "Green logistics, fast adaptation" taking place in Hanoi.

Mr. Dao Trong Khoa emphasized: “FIATA World Congress 2025 is not only an annual congress but also a place where the global logistics community comes together to shape a new development model - greener, more digital and more sustainable”.

According to VLA Chairman Dao Trong Khoa, Vietnam is a dynamic, deeply integrated economy with impressive import-export growth rates, with total trade turnover expected to exceed 800 billion USD in 2025; a system of more than 45,000 logistics enterprises, including more than 5,000 international freight forwarding enterprises, making important contributions to the economy.

Vietnam’s logistics industry currently accounts for a market size of about 70-80 billion USD, with the potential to become a new logistics center of the ASEAN region. In particular, the Vietnamese Government has issued many strategic resolutions to develop green logistics, modern infrastructure and international integration.

However, Mr. Khoa is also concerned that Vietnam's logistics costs account for 16-18% of GDP, higher than the global average of 10-12%, while logistics also accounts for 8-10% of CO₂ emissions. This poses an urgent need to both reduce costs and "green" operations, thereby creating a sustainable competitive advantage.

According to Turgut Erkeskin, President of the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA), green and adaptive logistics is an urgent issue. The global logistics industry is witnessing profound changes in trade movements, geopolitical fluctuations, the rise of e-commerce, the technology boom and the pressure on sustainability. Logistics companies are at the heart of these changes, ensuring that goods move reliably, efficiently and responsibly towards people and the planet, even as protectionism grows.

“FIATA World Congress 2025 will be a place where the international business community can share solutions and establish strategies for the logistics industry to quickly adapt to the times,” affirmed the FIATA President.

Mr. Takashi Kagamoto, General Director of Mitsubishi Estate Vietnam, said that Ho Chi Minh City and major import-export centers have a favorable foundation for strong logistics development. However, at the same time, risks from trade policies, climate change or international transport disruptions can create a big shock if the logistics system is not flexible enough.

“Therefore, to catch up with the wave of global supply chain shifts, Vietnam needs to invest synchronously in everything from connection infrastructure, human resource quality to building a comprehensive digital ecosystem,” said Mr. Takashi Kagamoto.
