Chip giant TSMC plans to build three new chip factories, determined to maintain its position in the global market.

Taiwan-based global semiconductor manufacturer TSMC has just officially announced the groundbreaking of two manufacturing facilities dedicated to designing and manufacturing microchips on the advanced 2nm technology process.

In addition, TSMC is quickly completing the necessary procedures, completing the licensing procedures of the Taiwanese government to build another factory.

Mark Liu, chairman of the board of TSMC, noted in a meeting with investors and experts that mass production of the latest 2nm standard chips will begin in 2025.

TSCM's new factories are located in the Hsinchu and Kaohsiung science and technology parks.

The first plant will be built near Baoshan in Hsinchu, close to the R1 research center, which is focused on developing 2nm chip technology. Mass production is expected to begin in the second half of 2025.

The second plant will be located in Kaohsiung Science Park, part of the Southern Taiwan Science and Technology Park, and is expected to go into production in 2026.

Once approved by the authorities, the third plant is expected to be located in Taichung Park. If construction begins in 2025, the plant will produce 2nm standard chips from 2027.

TSCM plans to apply Gate-All-Around (GAA) and nanosheet transistor architectures to mass-produce chips using 2nm process technology. GAA is a new technology that improves performance while reducing chip area and power consumption compared to current FinFET technology.

The launch of all three 2nm chip manufacturing plants will allow TSMC to significantly strengthen its position in the global market, providing customers with access to the most modern semiconductor technology available today.
