Scientist Vuong Duc Dan was born in 1937, into a family of high-class intellectuals in Tangshan (Hubei, China). His grandfather was a good surgeon, his father was the deputy director of a hospital, and his mother was Swiss, graduated in Vocal Music, and spoke four languages.
Coming from a family with a tradition of studiousness, he excelled from a young age. When he started learning to speak, his mother taught him English. Being an intelligent person, throughout 12 years of school, Vuong Duc Dan achieved excellent grades.
In 1955, taking the university entrance exam, Vuong Duc Dan scored 100/100 in Math, 95/100 in Chemistry and 98/100 in Physics. With near-perfect scores, he confidently applied to the Physics Department of Peking University and the Water Resources Department of Tsinghua University (China).
However, both of China’s top universities rejected Mr. Dan on the grounds that he was a mixed-race child. At that time, there were still many prejudices in China about the existence of children with mixed blood. Accepting the paradox, he entered the Beijing Petroleum Institute (China), majoring in Petroleum Production.
Although it was not his favorite subject, he still tried. Later, he gradually became interested in this subject. He spent a lot of time in the library reading and researching. Whenever he encountered difficulties, he sought out specialized teachers to answer his questions. During his 5 years of studying here, he had good academic achievements.
In 1960, after graduating with honors, Mr. Dan was retained by the academy to become a lecturer. However, after thinking about it, he decided to give up this opportunity to focus on research. He believed that the petroleum industry was important to the development of the country. Therefore, he applied to work at the Daqing Oil Company (China), and was later assigned to the pressure measurement team of the oil production geological laboratory.
While working here, he discovered that when applying the Hönow Method - optimizing the gas distribution network, there was a high error. At this time, Mr. Dan decided to learn Russian by himself and researched documents on Soviet Mathematical Derivatives.
In more than 100 days of continuous work, in February 1961, he found a formula for calculating geological pressure that was suitable for the actual conditions of the Daqing oil field. This was called the Songliao Method . Many scientists commented that this method was more accurate than before.
In 1963, thanks to his research achievements, he rose from technician to engineer and was transferred to the Petroleum Production Technology Research Institute. After that, Mr. Dan continued to discover the Eccentric Injection Method , to improve oil exploitation efficiency.
To describe the contribution of scientist Wang Demin, Chinese media said that it was a breakthrough and advancement in the field of petroleum. Not arrogant about his achievements, he continued to improve his expertise and developed the Eccentric water purifier with his colleagues. His invention won the Second Prize of National Invention in 1970 .
In 1978, he transferred to Daqing Petroleum Administration as deputy chief engineer. Instead of conducting personal research, he and his teammates focused on major topics. With constant efforts, in 1983, he was promoted to senior engineer. Three years later, he became chief engineer of Daqing Petroleum Administration.
From 1990 to present, when Daqing Oil Company entered the development stage, Mr. Dan gave up his management position to focus on scientific research and teaching at China University of Petroleum.
In recognition of the contributions of scientist Wang Demin over the past 56 years, at the age of 79, an asteroid was named after him. The international number is 210231, the official name of the asteroid is "Wang Demin's Star".
Currently, although he is retired, he still works hard. Scientist Vuong Duc Dan said that he works 12 hours a day, 7 days a week. Sharing with CCTV , he said that he still wants to serve the country. "Although I am old, I still dedicate myself to my homeland, bravely climbing to the peak of oil technology."
Recently, he has continued to receive attention from the Chinese media because of his handsome appearance. He is considered the 'Wu Yanzu of intellectuals'. In response to everyone's attention, Mr. Dan said that he is a petroleum research engineer. "When people mention me, please talk more about science."
Mr. Wang Demin is a famous Chinese petroleum scientist. He has made many contributions to the development of the national petroleum industry. He is known for his pioneering research on efficient oil and gas extraction methods, contributing to improving the oil recovery rate and promoting China's oil and gas production.

In 1978, he and his colleagues successfully researched advanced oil and gas exploitation technologies such as: Eccentric water distribution method , Layered oil exploitation method and Oil and gas well testing method . This achievement helped him and his research team to be awarded the National Congress Science Award .
In 1979, he continued to research and develop the multi-purpose eccentric production control system for oil wells . Later, he received the Second Prize of National Invention .
In 1986, under his guidance, the research project on Daqing Oil Field Exploitation and Development Technology by Water Distribution Method received the National Science and Technology Special Award .
In 1998, he led the research team to complete the project Chemical Oil Exploitation Technology - Polymer Pushing Technique . This breakthrough scientific achievement helped the project receive the First Prize of National Science and Technology .
In 2005, he successfully researched the technology of oil exploitation using composite plastic and received the Second Prize for National Invention .
In 2009, for his achievements in the field of science and technology, he received the He Liang and He Li Science and Technology Award .
In 2017, his research project on Technology and application of three-element pushing method to increase oil recovery rate was awarded the Second Prize of National Science and Technology .
In addition to the above achievements, Mr. Dan has many other valuable scientific research works. He is a shining example of dedication, creativity and continuous learning for the younger generation to follow.
When he first came to America, because his English was still poor, Hieu's contributions were not appreciated by his classmates. That was also the motivation for him to strive to surpass the native speakers.
