Accordingly, from June 1, 2026, unleaded gasoline (according to current national technical standards) must be blended into E10 gasoline for use in gasoline engines nationwide.
In addition, the blending and production of E5RON92 gasoline for use in gasoline engines will continue until December 31, 2030.
Regarding the scope of application, this circular applies to petroleum traders; organizations and individuals producing, importing, blending, and trading biofuels and biogasoline; and other relevant agencies, organizations, and individuals in Vietnam. Furthermore, it does not mandate a specific blending ratio of biodiesel with diesel fuel used in diesel engines, nor does it apply to blending ratios of biodiesel with traditional fuels used in aviation and special gasoline and diesel fuels for functional units serving national security and defense purposes as prescribed by competent authorities.
According to Circular 50, biofuels are bio-based fuels including denatured or undenatured fuel ethanol (E100) and bio-based diesel (B100). Traditional fuels are unleaded gasoline (base gasoline) including RON92, RON95, other unleaded gasolines, or diesel fuel (DO) that meets the quality requirements of the law.
In this circular, biofuels are mixtures of fuel ethanol and base gasoline, including E5RON92 and E10 gasoline. Blending biofuels involves adding E100 in varying proportions to base gasoline using in-tank or in-line blending methods, or other suitable blending methods.
B10 diesel is a mixture of DO and B100, with a B100 content of 9% to 10% by volume, denoted as B10. Blending biodiesel involves adding B100 to DO at varying ratios using in-tank or in-line blending methods, or other suitable blending techniques.
"During the implementation of the roadmap for applying the blending ratio of biofuels with traditional fuels, based on the actual situation regarding socio-economic conditions, technology, supply, demand, prices, and other related fluctuations, the Minister of Industry and Trade shall consider and decide to adjust the blending ratio of biofuels with traditional fuels, and add suitable types of gasoline products to the market to ensure energy security, environmental protection, and consumer rights," Circular 50 clearly states.
Until the mandatory use of B5 and B10 biodiesel for diesel engines is mandated, organizations and individuals are encouraged to participate in the production, blending, mixing, trading, and use of B5 and B10 biodiesel.
