World Population Day 2025 was chosen with the theme: “Reproductive autonomy in a changing world”, deeply reflecting the current urgent need to ensure basic human rights, especially reproductive rights, in the context of many factors such as population aging, urbanization, climate change and gender inequality that are strongly affecting the community.
Improving population quality is identified as a key and consistent task in the population work of Tuyen Quang province. With a population of over 1.73 million people, propaganda work is promoted to communicate appropriately to each target group, contributing to changing awareness and behavior in the community. Effective models such as pre-marital health consultation and examination; care for the elderly in the community; reproductive health care for adolescents and young people... are maintained regularly. The province also mobilizes many resources to maintain gender stability at birth, increase the rate of young people and the elderly receiving regular examination and consultation. Up to now, thousands of people have had access to appropriate health care services.
Ms. Giang Thi Pa, Thang Mo commune shared: “Before, I almost did not pay attention to reproductive health, only when I had problems did I start going for check-ups. Since hearing the population officer come to my place to share and specifically answer each question, I have understood that reproductive health care is necessary and should start early. Thanks to that, I have changed my thinking, proactively went for regular check-ups, know how to take better care of myself and am also more confident in protecting the health of my whole family.”
According to the report of the Department of Population and Family Planning (DS-KHHGĐ), by the end of May 2025, the total number of births in the province was 8,882 (of which 4,645 were male; 4,237 were female). The total number of newborn screening cases was over 3,100; nearly 4,400 people were given safe contraceptive measures such as using injections, oral medications and contraceptive implants; nearly 100 propaganda and consultation sessions were organized on the benefits and importance of screening, diagnosis and treatment of health problems for couples of childbearing age...
In order to raise awareness and responsibility of all levels, sectors and the whole society about the role of population work in the context of a changing world, the Department of Population and Family Planning of Tuyen Quang province has issued guidelines for the implementation, maintenance and logistics of contraceptive methods, communication to change behavior, integrated propaganda to provide reproductive health care services in disadvantaged communes, organizing prenatal and newborn screening, and issuing guidelines for implementing communication activities in response to World Population Day...
Ms. Ha Thi Huyen, a specialist in population and family planning in Kien Dai commune, said: “For people, especially rural women, talking about reproductive rights must go hand in hand with specific and practical explanations. We organize integrated communication sessions in villages, combined with individual counseling for young people and women of childbearing age. Some people have never heard of the concept of “reproductive rights”, but after understanding, they are more proactive in taking care of themselves and planning to have children appropriately.”
In the coming time, the Department of Health will continue to implement comprehensive and synchronous solutions, mobilizing all resources to raise awareness and change community behavior in implementing population policies. In addition, it will improve population quality, increase local financial resources and socialize population work in the province.
