In addition, artist Nguyen Thanh Vu believes that there is no need to worry or doubt when pursuing cultural and historical topics. “I think that as artists, if we are afraid, we cannot do it. I paint based on what I know and my own feelings. Of course, each artist will have their own perspective and expression. There is no right or wrong here, it is just appropriate at different times or not,” he expressed.
Thanh Vu spent more than a year researching many documents and conducting field surveys, for example visiting relics in Hue to understand the Nguyen Dynasty's art and culture or Thang Long Imperial Citadel to understand the sacred animals of the Ly and Tran dynasties... He also went to Cambodia and Thailand to learn about the Cham culture in different regions.
In addition to the four sacred animals including Dragon, Unicorn, Turtle, and Phoenix, in the Vietnamese cultural beliefs, there are many other sacred animals, including animals close to humans such as dogs, horses, cats, buffaloes, elephants, etc. Through the exhibition, the artist wants people to know more about the stories, legends, and ancient concepts that formed the beliefs of the Vietnamese people and have been preserved until today.
Painter Nguyen Thanh Vu was born in 1995 and graduated from Ho Chi Minh City University of Architecture. Since childhood, he has had a great passion for painting, especially oil painting. Vu believes that painting is also culture and reflects the true nature of the times.
The artist pursues the post-impressionist school, with the desire to convey the vitality, enthusiasm, youthfulness and peace through his works of art. After the two collections of Vietnamese Mysteries and Four Spirits, in 2025 the artist will introduce the Sunrise & Sunset collection - a line of energetic paintings, conveying positive things to everyone.
