Also attending were Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang, veteran officials, scientists, representatives of the Party Committee and Party members of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Former Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan attended the online discussion.
Speaking at the opening of the seminar, Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Vu emphasized that the seminar has special significance on the occasion of the 133rd anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birthday. According to Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Vu, Ho Chi Minh's diplomatic ideology originated from patriotism, Vietnamese cultural and diplomatic traditions, selectively absorbing the quintessence of human culture, especially creatively applying Marxism-Leninism, through the process of his activities and surveying domestic and international practices. From that origin, the main contents of Ho Chi Minh's diplomatic ideology have been crystallized, which is a valuable heritage for today's diplomacy. On that foundation, a comprehensive, modern Vietnamese diplomacy is being formed, imbued with national identity, which, as General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong said at the 2021 National Foreign Affairs Conference, is the "Vietnam Bamboo Diplomacy" school.
Attending the online discussion, former Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan said that Ho Chi Minh's diplomatic ideology has four characteristics. These are: steadfast in goals, peaceful in nature, flexible in action and humane in character. According to former Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan, throughout his life, Uncle Ho persistently fought for national independence and unification. In negotiations, Uncle Ho always persevered to achieve the above goals but also sought ways to have peace . A characteristic of Ho Chi Minh's diplomatic ideology is humane in character. "President Ho Chi Minh was Vietnamese, with the character of an Easterner. But he was also an international activist, traveling all over the world, so he was also imbued with human culture. Those two characters created a very unique way of behaving of President Ho Chi Minh", former Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan emphasized.
Also at the seminar, delegates listened to valuable sharing from generations of fathers and brothers, former leaders, veteran officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and scientists about aspects of Ho Chi Minh's diplomatic thought. Opinions at the seminar affirmed that the 78-year journey of protecting and building the Fatherland, overcoming many hardships and challenges of the diplomatic sector, has proven the everlasting and timeless value of Ho Chi Minh's diplomatic thought. Lessons such as "five knowledges", "using the unchanging to respond to all changes", "concentrated diplomacy"... always retain their value in the face of unpredictable changes of the times.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Vu emphasized that in the context of a world of insecurity, uncertainty, economic recession, and many intertwined risks and challenges, Vietnam is one of the few countries that has maintained political and social stability and maintained growth. This is thanks to the foundation of the country's position and strength accumulated over many generations, along with the Party's correct domestic and foreign policies.
At the 13th Congress, for the first time, the theme of the Congress and the political documents mentioned “the aspiration to develop a prosperous and happy country”. This is a new feature and a very important mark, carrying the legacy of President Ho Chi Minh’s aspiration to bring the Vietnamese people “to the stage of glory”, “to stand shoulder to shoulder with the world powers”. The document also clearly affirmed that continuing to “Firmly and creatively apply and develop Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought” is the theoretical basis for implementation.
Studying and applying Ho Chi Minh's diplomatic ideology to each individual is to gain more motivation and cultivate political qualities; at the same time, it is also a way to express affection and gratitude towards Uncle Ho.
