Offering incense in memory of hero Nguyen Tri Phuong

In the speech commemorating the famous general Nguyen Tri Phuong at the ceremony, the great contributions of the famous general Nguyen Tri Phuong in the cause of fighting against foreign invaders of our nation were affirmed. Governor Nguyen Tri Phuong's old name was Nguyen Van Chuong (1800 - 1873), from Duong Long village, Phong Chuong commune, Phong Dien district; his given name was Ham Trinh, his pen name was Duong Xuyen. He came from a poor family and was an intelligent and talented person.

Nguyen Tri Phuong was an official, holding many important positions under three kings, Minh Mang, Thieu Tri and Tu Duc, and achieved glorious victories. He was the Commander-in-Chief of the Nguyen Dynasty's army against the invading French army in the battles of Da Nang (1858), Gia Dinh (1861) and Hanoi (1873).

When the French army attacked Hanoi in November 1873, he, his son, Prince Consort Nguyen Lam, and soldiers fought bravely against the might of the French army. Prince Consort Nguyen Lam died in battle, Nguyen Tri Phuong was seriously injured, and was treated by French soldiers, but he went on a hunger strike for a month and died on December 20, 1873.

The anniversary of the death of General Nguyen Tri Phuong is an opportunity for today's generations and future generations to express their respect and commemorate the great contributions of the heroic martyrs who fought and sacrificed to protect the country. At the same time, it is an opportunity to propagateand educate and enhance the national spirit to all classes of people in society, contributing to honoring the tradition of remembering the source of water, promoting the historical role in the cause of innovation and national construction.

Students of Nguyen Tri Phuong Secondary School ( Hue City) heard about the contributions that the famous general left for posterity.

In a solemn atmosphere, delegates from the Party Committee, local authorities, mass organizations of Phong Chuong commune; the Board of Directors, students of Nguyen Tri Phuong Secondary School (Hue City) and Nguyen Duy Secondary School, Phong Dien district, and all generations respectfully bowed and offered flowers and incense to commemorate the Vietnamese hero who was loyal to the people and the country, living and dying together to protect the country.

Speaking at the ceremony, on behalf of the leaders of Phong Dien district, Vice Chairman of Phong Dien District People's Committee Hoang Van Thai highlighted the patriotism of General Nguyen Tri Phuong, which is a valuable lesson, educating the present and future generations about the national spirit, the spirit of patriotism against foreign invaders. The noble qualities of General Nguyen Tri Phuong have lived forever in the hearts of the people of Phong Dien in general and Phong Chuong in particular.

The leaders of Phong Dien district requested the People's Committee of Phong Chuong commune, the unit directly managing and taking care of the national historical relic of Nguyen Tri Phuong's tomb, to proactively coordinate with relevant units to develop regulations and rules to protect and promote the value of the relic; build infrastructure and signboards for tourists and people to visit, pay respects and offer incense. Develop a plan to preserve and promote the value of the relic with appropriate forms and contents to scientifically and effectively manage and exploit the historical value of the relic, considering it an honor, pride and also a great responsibility for the cause of preserving and promoting the value of the relic.

Phong Dien district aims to further promote the Nguyen Tri Phuong mausoleum and church to become a place to educate about the local historical and cultural traditions.
