Two days ago, the Vietnamese women's team ranked 44th in the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) rankings. The all-win record in the first round of the Asian Women's Volleyball Championship helped coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his team jump three places. This improvement is still not as great as the leap after just one match yesterday (September 3).
Vietnam women's volleyball team jumped 8 places thanks to victories at the Asian championship.
The Vietnamese women's team jumped five places thanks to their victory over Australia in the second round. The 3-0 victory helped Tran Thi Thanh Thuy and her teammates earn an additional 7.5 points in the world rankings. This is the highest number of points the Vietnamese women's volleyball team has won in a match since the beginning of 2023.
At the moment, the Vietnamese team has 90.28 points, temporarily ranking 39th on the world rankings. The 38th position is the Egyptian team (104.62 points). The Vietnamese women's team can surpass the African representative if they win against Thailand in today's match (6:00 p.m. on September 4). However, it will not be easy for coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his team to do so.
Thailand is ranked 14th in the world, 3rd in Asia and number 1 in Southeast Asia. The Golden Temple team will play at home in the 2023 Asian Women's Volleyball Championship and they have not lost a single match. The Vietnamese women's volleyball team has not won a single match against Thailand.
In 2023 alone, the two teams will meet four times. Thanh Thuy and her teammates caused many difficulties for their opponents at the 32nd SEA Games (two matches) and the first leg of the SEA V.League. In the fourth match - the second leg of the SEA V.League - the Vietnamese women's team used many young players and lost to their opponents 0-3.
