On September 13, Khang was the one who opened the door to save Tran Tan P. (born in 2012, resident of Thanh Nhat ward) who managed to escape into the house. Despite the murderer's repeated threats, Khang still resolutely refused to open the door.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tam, Chairman of Thanh Nhat Ward People's Committee, assessed Khang's actions as a living proof of the spirit of compassion, responsibility and courage of the children and youth of the school. He deserves to be a shining example for his friends to follow. Khang's actions have spread a noble message: knowing how to love and be ready to help when others are in difficulty or trouble.

On behalf of the ward leaders, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tam commended Thach Chi Khang and proposed that the Provincial People's Committee give Khang an unexpected reward.

Principal of Tran Quoc Tuan Primary School praised Khang's brave spirit.

Director of the Department of Education and Training of Dak Lak province, Le Thi Thanh Xuan, also sent a letter of commendation to Thach Chi Khang. In the letter, Ms. Le Thi Thanh Xuan was moved and proud to hear that a student who was only 12 years old had performed a noble act. Khang was not afraid of danger, bravely protected his friend from being chased by bad guys; promptly reported the news so that the authorities could come to rescue his friend in a critical situation.

Khang’s actions not only saved a person’s life, but also lit up in each of us the belief in courage, kindness and the spirit of mutual love and support – the best values of the Vietnamese people. That is a shining example for all students to follow, a living proof that: at a young age, the will and actions can be great, contributing to making society more humane and warm with love.

The massacre left Ms. H., Ms. Tran Thi D. (born in 1970, Ms. H.'s mother), and Mr. Bui Van N. (born in 2002, Ms. H.'s younger brother) dead. Tran Tan P. (Ms. H.'s stepson) was stabbed many times by Thuan but managed to climb the wall to escape and was taken into the house by Khang to hide.
