Vietnam women's team wins big in opening match of 2026 Asian Cup qualifiers

The Vietnamese women's team had an impressive start in the 2026 Women's Asian Cup qualifiers when they defeated Maldives 7-0 in the match on the evening of June 29.

Right after the opening whistle, coach Mai Duc Chung's team quickly showed their superiority. In the first half, the Vietnamese women's team scored 6 goals thanks to goals from Van Su (2 goals), Bich Thuy, Nguyen Thi Van, My Anh and Minh Chuyen.

The fast-paced, high-pressing style of play and the ability to coordinate well helped the red team completely overwhelm their opponents from South Asia. In the second half, the Vietnamese women's team proactively slowed down the pace to conserve energy. However, the golden girls of Vietnamese football still scored another goal thanks to Hai Yen. Thereby, the Vietnamese women's team closed the match with a resounding 7-0 victory over the Maldives women's team.

With this result, coach Mai Duc Chung and his team temporarily took the lead in Group E after the first round of matches, when the remaining match between UAE and Guam ended with a score of 0-0. The big win gives the Vietnamese women's team a big advantage in goal difference before the confrontation with the remaining opponents, thereby expanding the opportunity to advance further in the continental qualifying round.
