Vietnam women's team lost to Thailand, met China in the Asian volleyball semi-finals

In the 4 meetings at the SEA Games and SEA V.League in 2023, the Vietnamese women's team lost to Thailand. Facing the opponent ranked 14th in the world , ranked 3rd in the continent in the match for the top spot in the second round of the Asian Championship, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet's students tried very hard but could not create a surprise.

The Thai team has not lost any game in the four matches since the beginning of the tournament. Tran Thi Thanh Thuy and her teammates were the first to force the home team to lose a game.

The Vietnamese women's team competed point for point with their opponents in set 1. Thailand was generally better, but at the end of the game, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet's students unexpectedly took the lead.

Bich Thuy scored with a familiar diagonal move to the right before the Thai player hit the ball out. The opponent complained that the ball hit the blocker's hand, but the referee still awarded the point to the Vietnamese team.

However, the Vietnamese women's team could not maintain the stalemate in the next 3 games. Thailand showed their superiority with diverse and varied attacks. The home team's blockers worked effectively. Meanwhile, the Vietnamese women's team made many mistakes. Thailand won 25-14 and 25-19.

In the fourth set, the Vietnamese women's team played better and persistently pursued their opponents. Thanh Thuy and her teammates tried to keep a gap of 1-3 points for most of the game, saving 3 consecutive set points. However, the Thai players still showed their superiority in skill to win the decisive points, winning 25-23 and ending the match.

Losing 1-3, the Vietnamese team ranked second in Group E (round 2) and will face China (top team of Group F) in the semi-finals.
