No early admission required
It is noted that at this time, some universities have opened portals for candidates to register online for admission methods that do not use high school graduation exam results (separate admission methods), and update foreign language certificates.
Candidates participating in the talent selection method of Hanoi University of Science and Technology start registering online on the university's portal from May 15 to June 30 (for candidates eligible for direct admission according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training ); the remaining candidates register from May 15 to June 5. After that, Hanoi University of Science and Technology will screen the applications and organize interviews for qualified candidates on June 22.
The University of Commerce has just opened its portal to receive applications for direct admission and priority admission; registering admission methods for candidates with excellent student awards, foreign language certificates, results of the Hanoi National University's competency assessment test, and results of the Hanoi University of Science and Technology's thinking assessment test. A series of schools have also opened their registration portals such as: Hanoi University of Construction, University of Natural Resources and Environment, Vietnam Academy of Agriculture , Academy of Justice... Some other schools announced that they will open their registration portals in June such as Foreign Trade University, Hanoi University of Procuracy, Banking Academy.
Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Duy Hai, Head of Admissions and Career Guidance Department, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, said that the reason the school opened the portal for candidates to consider talent is because with this method, candidates do not have a starting score yet, with the thinking assessment test method, candidates will know their score after the test, and with the high school graduation exam results method, the score will not be available until July.
Mr. Hai affirmed that Hanoi University of Science and Technology only opens the portal for candidates to register for the talent selection method and update foreign language certificates for conversion, the remaining two methods, candidates register on the admission information portal of the Ministry of Education and Training in July. Thus, this year, in addition to candidates eligible for direct admission according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, candidates applying for separate methods only know the scores obtained in each method, there is no situation of not taking the high school graduation exam but already knowing that they have been admitted to university like in previous years because the Ministry of Education and Training does not allow schools to organize early admission.
According to Associate Professor Vu Duy Hai, this year, the talent recruitment has a new score, the interview part is not scored like previous years, the jury evaluates pass/fail. Candidates who pass the interview round along with the score in the application round will be eligible to register on the system of the Ministry of Education and Training. Candidates who fail the interview round will not be eligible for admission.

Associate Professor Vu Duy Hai added that the conversion to a single admission score scale is being researched by the school and is waiting for the guidance circular from the Ministry of Education and Training. Hanoi University of Science and Technology plans to use the high school graduation exam score scale as the basis (30/30 scale), other methods (talent selection, thinking assessment test results) will be converted to this scale. Mr. Hai emphasized that converting the score scale does not mean mechanical implementation such as 70/100 thinking assessment test scores being converted to 21/30 points. The conversion will have a coefficient and the school will divide it into small score ranges to ensure fairness for candidates, for example: 50 - 60 points; 60 - 70 points, 70 - 80 points. Each score range has a different coefficient. After the Ministry of Education and Training announces the general conversion instructions, Hanoi University of Science and Technology will provide specific instructions and refer to the data of the 2024 high school graduation exam for candidates to visualize. The official coefficient will be available only when the 2025 high school graduation exam results are available.
According to Mr. Hai, this year, it is difficult to predict the benchmark scores for each admission method because schools do not divide their quotas according to admission methods and high school graduation exam scores.
Sharing with reporters, Dr. Nguyen Quang Trung, Deputy Head of the Department of Communications and Admissions, University of Commerce, noted that candidates using separate admission methods to the school must register on the admission portal to convert scores or be considered for direct admission because this year the admission methods must be converted to a single scale. If candidates do not register and do not have converted scores, they will lose the right to be considered for separate methods, the method of considering high school graduation exam results registered on the system of the Ministry of Education and Training will still be considered as usual.
Pre-registration helps candidates understand the school's information. Each major and school considers different methods and combinations, so candidates need to consider their options when registering on the Ministry's information portal. He also advised candidates to carefully read the admission notice and registration instructions. If candidates do not understand the new points in the admission of the University of Commerce this year, it is easy to lose their rights.
Regarding this year's benchmark scores, Dr. Nguyen Quang Trung predicted that the results of this year's high school graduation exam will be lower than in 2024 due to the new exam format, which is differentiated according to the requirements of the 2018 general education program. Therefore, when converting to a common score scale, schools will calculate and give appropriate coefficients to ensure the rights of candidates.
