Rully Nere said that U23 Indonesia was caught up in Vietnam's playing style. |
The 68-year-old former player, who played 38 times for the national team, said that U23 Indonesia lost their familiar playing style because they focused too much on their opponents: "In my opinion, the players no longer focused on their own playing style, but only on their opponents. In the end, the whole playing style was broken," he said.
Rully pointed out that in previous matches, the home team coordinated well, playing short one-twos effectively. But in the final, they only passed sideways and back, completely lacking in innovation: "There were no more beautiful combinations. Passing up and back, there was no creativity, because the opponent's mind was dominated," he added.
The former midfielder also believes that Indonesia lacks players with good individual skills, which is essential when the tactical plan does not work: "I don't see anyone with outstanding handling skills. When the game is locked, you need an individual to make a difference, but today no one can do that."
Mr. Rully also criticized the players' fighting spirit for being too easily agitated by the referee's decisions: "Whenever something happens, the whole team rushes in to react. That's not a good image. Only when you play good football will the audience be satisfied."
Finally, he advised coach Gerald Vanenburg to better understand the people and culture of Indonesian football, which is important if he wants to succeed.
