The Ukrainian army has just carried out a special rescue operation: Using a large drone to transport an entire electric bicycle to the front line, bringing an isolated soldier out of the danger zone.

The soldier nicknamed “Tankist” of the 4th Rapid Response Brigade – the Rubizh unit of the Ukrainian National Guard – was trapped at the front line after a fierce battle. Many of his comrades were wounded or killed, forcing him to hold the post alone for days.
In the face of the emergency, the unit commander planned to approach Tankist’s location by dropping an electric bicycle using a large military drone. After three attempts, the bold decision was successfully implemented. As a result, Tankist used an electric bicycle to run along the edge of the forest to return to a safe area.

On the battlefield, electric bicycles and light motorbikes are gradually becoming popular means of mobility, especially in fast attacks and moving between forests and mountains.
Currently, civilian drones cannot do this. Amazon is currently testing drone delivery services in the US, but they can only carry up to 2.2 kg. Meanwhile, the e-bike used by Ukraine can weigh dozens of times more, requiring military drones with extremely high lifting power and precision.
The use of drones in support and rescue missions in dangerous situations is not uncommon today. In Vietnam, during the recent floods caused by Typhoon Wipha, Viettel deployed drones flying at an altitude of hundreds of meters to broadcast mobile signals, creating a coverage area of up to 6 km. This solution helps maintain communication in isolated areas where broadcasting vehicles cannot reach.

Or before that, after Typhoon Yagi in Thai Nguyen in 2024, drones such as DJI Matrice 300 RTK and DJI T40 were deployed to support people. Drones were used to drop food, medicine, and life jackets to deeply flooded or landslide-prone areas where people could not safely reach.
Modern drones can be equipped with thermal sensors, which can detect biological signs such as body temperature. This is especially useful at night or in enclosed areas.
