Fighting continued to rage in several areas across Ukraine on June 24. According to local authorities, civilians were killed in the attacks.
Ukraine suffers new attack
A Russian attack on Ukraine's capital Kyiv early on June 24 has killed at least three people, local officials said, CNN reported. The missiles targeted at least five regions across the country, Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said. He said three people were killed and eight injured after a high-rise building in the capital was hit.

Before the airstrikes, the Ukrainian military said its air defenses had intercepted 41 out of 51 cruise missiles, as well as two unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) launched by Russia.
In a separate statement, Serhiy Popko, head of the Kyiv military administration, said that rocket debris had destroyed several high-rise buildings in the city. He added that more than 20 conventional missiles had been shot down around the city. Emergency workers sifted through debris at the scene on Friday morning and predicted that many people could be trapped under the rubble, Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klitschko said.
In other regions, Ukraine also reported casualties and damage to civilian structures. Specifically, officials in the southeastern Dnipro region said an airstrike in the province injured eight people, including two children, and damaged several buildings. Dnipro Governor Serhiy Lysak said air defenses destroyed nine missiles and three drones in the area.
Meanwhile in Kharkiv province, Governor Oleh Synehubov accused at least two Russian missiles of targeting the city of the same name, damaging an industrial zone and a gas pipeline in the area.
There were reports of explosions in other cities but there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
Russia declares destruction of Western weapons
In the latest update on the situation, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said on June 24 that the country's forces carried out a series of attacks on the night of June 23 using high-precision weapons. According to him, the targets of this airstrike were Western weapons and missile depots sent to Ukraine. He revealed that Russia had achieved the plan set out in the attack. All designated targets were destroyed, according to TASS news agency.

More specifically, the Russian Defense Ministry spokesman said that on June 23, the country's military attacked 93 Ukrainian artillery units at firing positions, targeting Kyiv's military personnel and equipment in 102 areas. According to him, the attacks eliminated more than 130 Ukrainian soldiers in the southern Donetsk region, destroyed 5 tanks, 3 infantry fighting vehicles, 3 armored combat vehicles and the Polish-made Krab artillery system.
In Kherson province alone, Russian forces claimed to have eliminated more than 40 Ukrainian troops, destroyed an M777 artillery system and 15 shells fired from the US-made HIMARS high-mobility artillery system. In addition, Russian air defense systems destroyed 11 Ukrainian UAVs in the two provinces of Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia, TASS reported.
Russia says Ukraine is taking advantage of the situation to counterattack
On June 24, the Russian Defense Ministry warned that Ukraine was taking advantage of the turmoil in Russia to concentrate its forces in an attempt to retake Bakhmut (Donetsk Oblast), a key city in the Donbass region that Kyiv lost control of in May, according to RT. The ministry said that Russian southern fighting groups were trying to suppress Ukraine with artillery and air strikes.
Earlier, on the night of June 23, Mr. Yevgeny Prigozhin, leader of the Wagner group, Russia's key force in the battle for Bakhmut, called on rebel forces to rebel against the Russian Ministry of Defense after a conflict between the two sides.
Meanwhile, on June 24, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on Telegram that what is happening in Russia has exposed Moscow's comprehensive weakness. According to him, Ukraine can protect Europe from Russia's instability, the Ukrinform news agency reported.
The Ukrainian president believes that Russia’s weakness is its dependence on mercenaries. The longer it keeps its army and mercenaries on Ukrainian territory, the more chaos, pain and problems it will bring to Russia, according to Mr. Zelensky.
On the same day, The Guardian quoted Mykhailo Podolyak, an adviser to the Ukrainian president, as saying that events in Russia "are developing according to the scenario we discussed last year." According to him, the start of the Ukrainian counter-offensive has destabilized the Russian elite, increasing internal divisions. "Today, we are actually witnessing the beginning of a civil war," Podolyak said.
Previously, in a speech to the nation on June 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin affirmed that he would not let any civil war take place, according to TASS.
