The above information was shared by prestigious dental experts from Korea and Vietnam at a specialized conference on dentistry and aesthetics (organized by the Korean Association of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (APAAS) in collaboration with Hong Ngoc General Hospital on July 12).

Associate Professor, Dr. Lee Duhyeong, Head of the Department of Dentistry (Korean Association of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery), Professional Director of the Korean Academy of Dental Prosthetics, affirmed: “Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been and is being applied more and more widely in dentistry. All companies and researchers are trying to develop this algorithm to the most optimal, best and most accurate level, so it is necessary to collect a lot of highly accurate data. Currently, the most popular application of AI technology is in dental prosthetic design. In the future, it may be applied in orthodontics, implant treatment and other techniques. This brings many benefits and will certainly become the trend of the future”.

Associate Professor, Dr. Lee Duhyeong: Artificial intelligence (AI) has been and is being applied more and more popularly in dentistry.

According to Associate Professor, Dr. Lee Duhyeong, if in the past, traditional orthodontic techniques used a lot of human resources to manufacture and treat dentistry, now, the application of digital technology has helped dentists save a lot of time, effort, and resources; at the same time, improving treatment efficiency while ensuring high accuracy and reliability. The important thing is to help patients have better treatment results, increasing customer satisfaction. Along with promoting cooperation between Vietnam and Korea, in the coming time, we will transfer many modern dental technologies to Vietnamese doctors and physicians", Associate Professor, Dr. Lee Duhyeong said.

Sharing more about the application of digital transformation and AI in dental examination and treatment in Vietnam, Dr. Bui Thanh Hieu (Department of Dentistry, Hong Ngoc General Hospital) informed: Currently, digital transformation or digital applications in medical examination and treatment are very common, including in the field of dentistry. In Vietnam, digitalization in dentistry began to become popular in the 2010s, making the entire development of science, technology and software more accessible. However, in the past 5 years, with the development of science, technology and software, access to digital methods in dentistry has become easier; the treatment process has also been shortened a lot. Fortunately, digital transformation in clinical treatment in the field of dentistry in the world and Vietnam are almost parallel. The world's advanced techniques have almost all been applied in Vietnam, from scanners, software, dental technology, etc.

Dr. Bui Thanh Hieu cited the application of digital film (X-ray based on cone-shaped CT machine) being applied by Hong Ngoc General Hospital, which has helped collect data of the maxillofacial area very effectively. Or the use of scanners to evaluate, simulate, reconstruct 3D images of teeth, jaws, control clinical images... helps to retain, serve the diagnosis and treatment of doctors for each patient case to achieve better results. Doctors and patients can immediately see the treatment regimen and results through each treatment on the simulation with high accuracy.

“Previously, to get dental implants, we had to go through X-rays, then evaluate, take samples from the teeth, test, implant, evaluate again, and then proceed with the implant… That process usually took about a month, but now it can be shortened to a day thanks to digital transformation applications,” said Dr. Bui Thanh Hieu.
