The Gemini mobile app becomes a versatile AI hub.

At the annual Google I/O 2026 event, Google announced a series of major upgrades to the Gemini mobile app, including the “Daily Brief” feature, a redesigned interface, the new Gemini Omni AI video creation model, and a new personal AI agent called Gemini Spark.

This move demonstrates Google's ambition to transform the Gemini mobile app into a versatile AI hub, rather than just a standalone chatbot as before, and to compete directly with other AI applications like ChatGPT or Claude.

One of the most notable features is the Daily Brief. This feature creates a personalized, intelligent summary to be the user's "first stop each morning." It aggregates information from emails, calendars, and important tasks, then organizes it into a clear overview.

According to Google, Daily Brief doesn't just summarize data; it prioritizes important tasks and suggests next steps for users. The most important information is displayed at the top of the list. This feature has begun rolling out to Google AI users in the US.

Google also stated that the Gemini app currently has over 900 million monthly active users in more than 230 countries and supports over 70 languages. However, the company continues to invest heavily in expanding its AI ecosystem.

This latest update to the Gemini app features a complete redesign by Google, using a new interface language called "Neural Expressive." The new interface adds smooth animation effects, vibrant colors, new typography, and haptic feedback. Instead of displaying answers as a "wall of text" like many current AI chatbots, Gemini will prioritize important information in bold. More detailed content, images, or timelines will appear as the user scrolls down.

Google also introduced Gemini Spark – a personal AI agent that operates continuously 24/7. The company describes Spark as a new step that will transform the Gemini app from an AI assistant into an “active partner” that can perform tasks on its own for the user.

Because it operates on a cloud platform, Spark continues to process tasks even when the phone is locked. With Gemini Spark in the Gemini app, users can also create their own custom workflows. Spark is currently in beta testing and is expected to launch for Google AI Ultra users next week.

In addition, Google announced Gemini Omni – a new AI video creation model that combines Gemini with the company's multimedia content creation models. Gemini Omni allows users to transform simple text or images into high-quality cinematic videos, edit footage, or change backgrounds through natural dialogue.

Users can also upload videos from their phones, apply pre-made templates with just one tap to create professional content without needing expensive equipment or in-depth technical knowledge; it even supports creating personalized AI avatars with appearances and voices that resemble real users.

Google announced that Gemini Omni is beginning to roll out to Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra users worldwide.
