Pioneering force on the cultural front
In many important documents of the Party and the State, culture has always been identified as the spiritual foundation of society, serving as both a goal and a driving force for socio-economic development. Especially in the context of increasingly deep international integration, culture is also seen as a soft power, contributing to enhancing the nation's position on the international stage.
For culture to develop as expected, the team of artists and writers plays a particularly important role. Not only are they creators of art, but artists and writers are also a force that directly reflects life, spreads humanistic values, and awakens the national spirit through their works.
In fact, in recent years, many fields of literature and art have undergone significant transformation. Vietnamese cinema has seen films exploring history, folklore, or contemporary life using modern language that resonates with young people. Traditional music has been revitalized with a contemporary feel. Fine arts, theater, and fashion have also witnessed a strong resurgence of national cultural elements in artistic creation.
Many young artists are striving to incorporate traditional elements into their works with innovative thinking. From reviving ancient costumes and exploring folk materials in music to incorporating heritage imagery into film and performance art, all demonstrate a growing interest in Vietnamese cultural values. This is not only a positive sign for the art scene but also reflects the aspiration to bring national culture further in the digital age.
However, contemporary literary and artistic life still has many limitations. A portion of works still cater to market tastes, prioritizing mere entertainment while lacking intellectual depth and artistic value. Many cultural products are caught up in the "quickie" trend, creating a temporary effect but lacking lasting vitality.
This places demands on artists and writers to maintain professional integrity and social responsibility throughout the creative process. A valuable work of art needs not only to be visually appealing but also to touch upon emotional depth, reflect social issues, and contribute to shaping public aesthetic sensibilities.
According to People's Artist Tran Quoc Chiem, Chairman of the Hanoi Union of Literature and Arts Associations, Resolution No. 80-NQ/TW was issued in the context of the country entering a new stage of development with a strong aspiration for progress. Regarding the field of literature and art, Resolution No. 80-NQ/TW contains many important new points. For the first time, the requirement for the development of literature and art is placed on a scale commensurate with the nation's cultural history and its position in the new era. Literature and art are identified as a separate development focus, linked to the mission of expressing the nation's character, intellect, soul, and aspirations. The Resolution emphasizes the role of intellectuals and artists as a crucial force in the development of culture. This is both an acknowledgment and a task assigned to the artistic creative community in guiding aesthetics, cultivating character, protecting ideological foundations, building cultural identity, and promoting the image of the country.
Creating works of art with depth and lasting vitality.
A strong culture cannot exist without great works. Throughout the nation's history, valuable works of literature and art have always contributed to nurturing patriotism, national pride, and the aspirations of the Vietnamese people. From resistance poetry and revolutionary music to theater, film, and fine arts, art has always accompanied the country's important transformations.
Today, in the context of a rapidly changing society, the demands placed on artists and writers are not only to reflect reality but also to contribute to the creation of new values. Literature and art need to delve into issues of contemporary life such as cultural transformation in the digital age, the lifestyles of young people, preserving national identity, protecting the environment, and the impact of artificial intelligence on human spiritual life.
In particular, the development of digital technology is opening up many new opportunities for artistic creation. Digital platforms help artists reach the public faster, allowing their works to transcend geographical boundaries. Many art programs applying modern projection technology, virtual reality, or artificial intelligence have brought new experiences to audiences.
The most important thing for artists and writers remains creative depth and social responsibility. Works with lasting vitality always stem from serious artistic work, a deep understanding of life, and a love for national culture. Today's public needs not only purely entertaining products but also works that can inspire, provoke reflection, and nourish the soul.
To enable artists and writers to effectively play their pioneering role, in addition to the self-effort of the creators, appropriate support mechanisms are also needed. Regarding this, writer Bui Thanh Minh (Hanoi Writers Association) believes that special attention should be paid to creating an environment of creative competition among artists and writers. Writers are characterized by independent creation and a constant need to affirm their abilities and surpass themselves. Therefore, regularly organizing in-depth literary competitions will create motivation to promote creativity.
In order to contribute to promoting the core role of artists and writers and fostering the creation of high-value works, according to People's Artist Tran Quoc Chiem - Chairman of the Hanoi Union of Literature and Arts Associations: The Union and its specialized associations will focus on several major directions such as: Building a new generation of artists and writers; promoting the creation of works of high ideological and artistic value; promoting digital transformation in literary and artistic activities; linking creative activities with the development of the cultural industry...
In every era, artists and writers are not only creators but also the flames that preserve the national spirit amidst the flow of integration. When art is based on responsibility, a desire to contribute, and love for Vietnamese culture, that is when culture gains strength to reach new heights in the modern age.
