On the same day, Ambassador Nguyen Tat Thanh paid a courtesy call to five Vanuatu Ministers, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs , Minister of Trade and Tourism, Minister of Agriculture, Minister of Health and Minister of Infrastructure and Transport.
Vanuatu leaders highly appreciated Vietnam's role and position in the region and the world , and proposed that the two Foreign Ministries preside over the review of the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding on technical and development cooperation signed in 2014 to continue promoting the strengths of both sides, developing relations between the two governments as well as people-to-people exchanges.
In addition to traditional cooperation areas in agriculture, forestry, fisheries, trade, investment, tourism, and human resource development, Vanuatu wishes to expand cooperation with Vietnam in new areas, especially climate change response and healthcare .

Foreign Minister Jotham Napat emphasized that Vanuatu considers Vietnam a Pacific neighbor, suggesting that the two countries consider visa exemptions for each other's citizens to promote trade, investment and tourism, and said he wanted to visit Vietnam soon to open the Vanuatu Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City.
Agriculture Minister Nako Natuman hopes that Vietnam will share its experience in rice cultivation to ensure food security, and proposed tripartite cooperation between Vanuatu, Vietnam and a development partner to maximize the strengths of each party in mutually beneficial areas.

At the meetings, Ambassador Nguyen Tat Thanh conveyed the condolences of the Vietnamese high-ranking leaders and Foreign Minister to the leaders and people of Vanuatu regarding the severe consequences of two consecutive major storms, which caused damage of up to 20% of Vanuatu's GDP.
The Ambassador shared Vanuatu's concerns about climate change, emphasizing that Vietnam is one of 18 core countries supporting Vanuatu's draft resolution at the United Nations General Assembly.
On this occasion, the Ambassador thanked the Government and people of Vanuatu for always supporting the Vietnamese community in the country to become stronger and stronger, becoming a solid bridge for the relationship between the two countries.

Also during the visit, the Ambassador and the delegation met and visited overseas Vietnamese and the cemetery of overseas Vietnamese in Port Vila.
Vietnam and Vanuatu established diplomatic relations in 1982, right after the country gained independence. The first Vietnamese people came to Vanuatu more than 100 years ago, the Vietnamese community here has always preserved the national cultural traditions, actively contributing to Vanuatu and bilateral relations. |
